A/n: This is not part of the story. This was a couple of ideas someone gave me, and I combined them together.

Luna Y.H Caelum gave me the ideas, so follow her on Quotev. Any side chapters I write, give that person the credit for coming up with them.

And I'll be sure to leave this ~Title~ so you'll know it's a side chapter.

P.S. Kuroba Kaito's birthday is June 21st, and I may add a little thing. Don't get mad if it's not true, I'm doing it for the sake of this side chapter. Blah.

(M/n) noticed something off about his childhood "friend." He couldn't tell what was wrong, but he knew his gut was right most of the time. He had to ask a couple of classmates about it. He's also asked his sister and their friends, but they all said he seemed fine.

Maybe the brunette was overreacting. He probably didn't get as much sleep as he normally would. That, or nobody else seemed to notice the magician's strange behavior.

Not that he cared! That was preposterous!

But it was bugging him. It got to a point where he would start pestering the blue-eyed boy about his odd behavior. Kaito would tease him, but he didn't have the usual mischevious glint in his eyes. His smirk barely curved, and it seemed forced.

Kaito wasn't flipping Aoko's skirts, and he didn't even attempt to hug (M/n) to get a reaction. He wasn't used to not receiving attention from the magician. He felt a little lonely, even with his sister.

Not that he ever wanted it in the first place!

After an entire day passed, (M/n) got more irritated. More so than whenever Kaito tries to get his grubby hands on his ass (and succeeded at every attempt, unfortunately).

He crossed out June 20th off his calendar with a red marker. He does a double take and his blue eyes go wide at the calendar, dropping his marker while doing so.

June 21st.

Now he understood. The brunette's strange behavior getting progressively worse each day that passed.

June 21st was the day his father passed away.

He remembered the magician accidentally drinking alcohol instead of a glass of water (they were in Jii's bar). The pale individual grumbled about having to drag the childish magician home until he heard nonsense coming from his mouth.

"You... are so adorable... it's not fair," Kaito slurred, hiccuping a giggle.

(M/n) scoffed, "How do these things happen?"

"No idea... But I'm not" he hiccuped, "complaining."

"S-Shut it, Kuroba!"

He remembered the bar being very quiet. Jii had to run some errands (which was strange, because it was night time). He couldn't shake off the tense atmosphere. The worst part was that he had no idea where it came from. That was until his "friend" spilled the beans.

"My birthday is coming up."

"So?"

"...My dad died on June 21st."

The pale boy quickly put the pieces together. He remembered how stiff his muscles were, how tense they got when the magician's somber words exited his mouth.

He needed to see Kaito!

(M/n) burst through the Kuroba residence, neglecting to close the door. He kicked the bedroom door down (a little much, but it did the job) and sees a pale Kaito sitting on his bed.

He awkwardly stood near the doorway, shifting his feet in small circles with, color on his face. (M/n) hesitantly walked toward the bed and jumped as he felt himself sink into the mattress.

"Oh, (M/n)~kun. What brings you here?" (M/n) flinched away from the magician, then fumed at that damn smile. The smile he wasn't used to. He missed the mischievous glint in those blue eyes, the smirk that gave him red flags, and that genuine smile that makes his heart want to break out of his ribcage.

Not this mask. This...

Poker face.

The two boys sat on the bed for a long while, unaware of how much time has passed. Kaito abruptly stood, making (M/n) fall further into the bed. He watches the magician walk out the door with terror.

"I'll be going. Make yourself at home."

No. No no no! He can't let Kaito walk away!

He wants to see that smile. That sweet smile that reached to his eyes. The mischief that dances around his face when he's up to no good. He wanted the magician to pay attention to him again!

"Wait!"

The brown-haired boy froze mid-step and turned to the boy who was now standing in front of him. A white rose appears in the Nakamori's fingertips, giving a shy but radiant smile with red staining his cheeks.

"I-I'm Nakamori (M/n)! Nice to meet you!" Kaito blinked, staring blankly at the other boy. (M/n) felt the temperature increase on his face, but retained his bright, timid smile.

He expected a teasing snicker to escape from the magician's lips. That sneaky smirk he displayed before he tries to get grabby with the boy. Anything of the sort.

But what he didn't expect was his entire face coated in crimson, shyly averting his gaze away from the brunette.

"(M-M/n)..." the brunette mumbled in his hand.

"A... Arigatou..."

Out of all the times he spent with Kuroba Kaito, the childish magician he had come to know, he loved and despised, this moment was something he will never forget as long as he lived.
