Kabanata 3
A Not-So Heartfelt ReunionI can still feel it.
I was sure about it earlier, but I am way more confident about it now. The class today was already dismissed already, and I am waiting in front of the school to meet Tito David. But this ominous feeling that someone was watching me-tailing me, even-was something I can't ignore. Ang tagal pang dumating ni Tito David! I can't just pursue whoever was following me knowing that Tito David will be fetching me!
Halos isang oras akong naghihintay nang dumating si Tito David. Binaba niya ang window shield with a worried look on his face. "Zenia, I'm so sorry! Ang tagal kasi ng anak ko!"
I forced a smile. "It's ok, Tito. I have somewhere to go kaya 'di rin ako makakasama sa inyo."
Tito David gave me a confused look. "Where are you going?"
Nag-isip na ako kanina ng pwede kong irason while waiting for him. So I confidently replied," may natandaan akong pinapagawa ni Aleah sa'kin kaya pupunta ako doon ngayon."
"Ganun ba? Sige, Ingat ka!"
After making sure he already left, I walked around the area to find a perfect place to corner this person spying over me.
After minutes of walking around, I finally found a secured place to battle (if necessary) without anyone noticing. Malayo-layo na rin ako sa school. I think this place is what they call an eskinita-with a dead end. When I reached end of the narrow place, I shouted,
"Whoever you are who has been following me, come out and show yourself! Don't wuss out and fight me, if that's what you want!"
But there was silence. No one responded to my heeding. But I can still feel this audacious person's presence. And I'm already getting frustrated because this person is surely adamant on staying in hiding. I was massaging my temple when a memory flashed through my mind.
"Aleah, can't you let me hunt other animal? This spekia is freakishly quick! And they conceal themselves very well! I can't catch them, let alone know where they are!" I ranted.
Aleah looked at me and shook her head. "Not a chance, little girl. Not until you catch one. Look, this is part of your training, ok? You need to be always wary of your surroundings because enemies are everywhere. You can't let your guard down because once you do, they'll see it as an opportunity to destroy you. Or worse, kill you."
"What does spekia have to do with our enemies?"
Aleah chuckled.
"As I already told you, young one, spekia is a type of animal who can, let's say, camouflage. They blend well with their surroundings that you won't even notice where they are. They are like our enemies out there, Nourin. They are beings with immense superiority towards us, humans. They conceal themselves very well. They can perish anyone they like. That's why I want you to be able to overcome this, for the future."
"But it's so hard, Aleah! It really is! Can't you teach me how you do it?"
"Sure." She replied.
Aleah heaved a big sigh after closing her eyes. Seconds later I saw her slowly removing her mini dagger in her back pocket. Abruptly, she threw it in my direction! I was almost stabbed if I wasn't agile enough to evade that!
I looked at Aleah incredulously. "Are you trying to kill me?"
She shrugged and point something in my direction using her lips. I tilted my head to see what it was. I gasped. It was a spekia pinned into the large tree, with Aleah's dagger that pierced through its guts!
