Sinnoh. The region split in two by massive mountains. A mountain in the center of the continent- Mt. Coronet, held secrets. Myths and legends have been told that something lay at its peak. Not many travel up the whole mountain, as it takes a day's worth if you went at a walking pace, and it was a dangerous climb. Below, many cities, towns, and routes coated the land. Here is where our story starts, A calm town surrounded by forestry and life. Solaceon Town. A quaint place with only four houses, excluding the Mart, the Pokemon Center, and the loving Daycare. A short ways away from the town, along a dirt pathway that stretched for what at a first glance looked like miles; was a ranch. This ranch was owned by a woman in her early 20's. May Ambers. She was one to take in Pokemon and keep them safe. Whether they be eggs, or fully evolved. She saved them from poachers, traps, or just from horrid turns of battle that she wasn't present for. She never truly wanted to start a journey around the region, taking on Gyms and the Elite 4. She wanted a simple, carefree life at her ranch. But after much persuasion from her family, and her mentor Chloe...She finally decided to take her chances and do it. Even her little niece wanted to participate in travelling, but she just wasn't ready yet...

Riiiing, riiing, rii-

May pressed her hand on the snooze button of her alarm, shutting the clock up in an instant. With a groan, she stretched her arms above her head. A pop or three coming from her shoulders and spine. Ooooh much better. She threw the gray covers off of her lower body before swinging her legs over the side of the bed. Her feet meeting with the chilly wooden floor, sending a shiver up her back. Rubbing her eye, she mumbled. "I really need to buy slippers or something.." Patting her nightstand, she found the pair of black rimmed glasses she had to wear. Can't go about your day if you can't see! Pressing the eye-wear up the bridge of her nose, she heard the pitter patter of  footsteps coming from downstairs. Seems her niece was awake, of course. She always seems to get up before the woman does. May changed out of her pajamas to more casual day wear. A blue v-neck with a pink tank top underneath. Black pants, and a pair of brown boots. And- ah, she almost forgot. Drawing back to her nightstand, she pulled open a drawer to reveal a bottle of pills. Allergy pills of course. Even within this crazy world filled with Pokemon, allergies can still be a painful thing. Popping the little white tablet into her mouth, she swallowed it dry. Nearly gagging it back up. Eugh, gross. But oh well, keeps all the crummy stuff away. Now she better head downstairs before the kid breaks something! Heading out of her room, she sped her way down the stairway. Holding onto the fancy little handrail, just in case. Cupping one hand by her mouth, she called out into the hallway. "Oh Charlotte. You haven't been causing havoc, have you?" A little smile was across her face. A giggle answered the woman's question before a voice did. "Nooo! I was just playing with my new friend!" ...Say what now? "Huh?" May voiced her confusion before the child came running past. Little hopping footsteps followed close by. Who in the world did Charlotte find? "Lily! Lily! Meet my Aunt!" Charlotte hopped up and down as she pointed to the woman. May rubbed the back of her neck, her confusion rising. A shadow stretched through the doorway the girl had ran through, as a Pokemon appeared...

A Starly approached slowly, seeing the taller woman before her. Wings held close to her body, appearing smaller. Must be shy to new people...Ah. Of course Charlotte would be the one to find her. She was good at getting people and Pokemon alike out of their shells. May chuckled quietly as she crouched down, speaking softly to the bird Pokemon. "Hello there Lily. My name is May, it's nice to meet you." Lily stopped in her place upon the woman speaking to her. Poor thing. "A-Ah uhm- Hello.." She chirped. May would've been surprised that she could understand the little one, but this was normal to her. She was taught the ways of understanding Pokemon by her mentor and friend, Chloe when she first began working with the older woman. With her smile widening ever so slightly, she spoke again. Being sure to keep her gentle tone. "It's alright Lily, I'm not going to hurt you. I own this Ranch we live on, where Pokemon can be safe and protected." She explained, not wanting to give the bird any reason to fear. Lily seemed to relax a bit, while Charlotte watched closely. The kid didn't understand Pokemon speech, she was never taught by anyone. So she simply looked confused; But intrigued. Lily glanced to Charlotte a few times, as if the kid was gonna suddenly scoop her out of this. "Is she your friend, Lily?" May asked. Lily looked straight up at the woman, looking happy for a moment as she spoke. "Y-Yeah! She was r-r-really nice and s-scared off a Weedle to h-help me!" The little Starly hopped up and down a bit, as if reliving the moment right as she spoke it. "Sh-She was so kind and f-fearless when she helped me.." Her feathers ruffled a bit as she tried to choose her words. "I w-wanna be like that too!" May blinked a couple times, not saying a word as she thought. A Starly being harassed by a Weedle? Well that was new. But seeing how shy this one was....Shaking the thought away, she gently patted Lily on the head. Feeling the bird flinch beneath her hand. "I'm glad you want to become brave Lily. I think you and Charlotte would be really good for each other as a team. I just know it. So perhaaapppss..." She glanced over as she heard Charlotte gasp quietly, her eyes lit up in excitement. She knew what her Aunt was getting at. Standing up from her crouched position, May walked into a closet that was down the hall. It was decently sized closet, and it was where she kept her Pokemon items. Pokeballs of different kinds were stored neatly on a shelf, Potions, Revives, and other healing items sat in a first-aid looking crate on the floor where they were kept safe in case of an emergency or a Pokemon comes in need of a little patching up. Reaching over to the shelf on her right, she picked up a shiny, clean Pokeball. Turning around, she handed the ball to Charlotte who was quite close by. The kid grabbed the ball in a hurry, practically beaming like the sun as she looked to Lily. Getting down on one knee, she spoke. "Lily, we've become great friends, and I wanna start a team with you! We can do a bunch of cool stuff together, you and me! We can even get friends along the way to come with us!" Her emotions filled her voice. Sweet and sincere. She sounded like she rehearsed these lines many times in the mirror. Lily seemed overwhelmed for a moment as she took in the words Charlotte said to her. "I-I-I-" She stuttered, eyes darting around the room as she contemplated about what to do. "Jeez kid, you're asking her to join you on a team. You're not trying to marry her." May chimed in with a chuckle, causing the child to huff "Hush!" She waved a hand at the woman to silence her for a bit as Lily looked back up at her. The two stared at each other, and finally...Lily nodded her head. Charlotte jumped up to both feet and cheered. "Yay!! We're gonna be the best team EVER!" She squeaked out, nearly giving the poor little bird a heart attack. After a minute, the kid calmed down enough to crouch back down once more, holding out the Pokeball as her Aunt instructed. Charlotte never owned a Pokemon for herself. She had only watched on as Pokemon came and went from the Ranch. Lily slowly approached, bumping the little button on the Pokeball with her head. The ball opened, a red light engulfing the Starly before getting pulled into the ball, which then closed tight. It shook once, twice, three times...And stopped. "Congratulations kiddo." May placed a hand on Charlotte's shoulder. "You are now an official Pokemon trainer." She had a large, proud smile across her face, the child shared the same expression, but much brighter. Charlotte stood up and wrapped her arms around her Aunt tightly. May returned the embrace without any hesitation. She was really proud of the kid for becoming a trainer like she always dreamed of. Charlotte would always talk about what she would do once she got a Pokemon. And now she can finally take her first steps. Wait... Is she tearing up? May lifted a hand up to her face, rubbing her eye as she felt a tear form and nearly spill. With a soft laugh, she patted the kid's back. "Alright champion in the making. I gotta go get a Pokemon of my own. Chloe managed to snag me a meeting with Professor Rowan, and I need to get there before I miss my chance." She told the girl as she nodded her head quickly. "Okay!! I'm gonna go play with Lily some more!" Charlotte then ran off as May shouted "Okay, but be careful! Don't get too close to the new Ranch Pokemon! And please call if anything happens." She then went back into the closet, scrounging around for a moment until she found a gray backpack with blue zippers hidden in the back. She stuffed some items she knew she might need into the bag before throwing it over her shoulders. Once she was finished, she closed the closet door. May headed down the other end of the hallway, to a worn wooden door. A red curtain draped halfway down from the outside, shielding some of the oval shaped window. Reaching down to the doorknob, May took a breath. She was about to go get her own Pokemon. Start her journey like she was encouraged to do...Was she really ready?  She knew the ranch would be kept in good hands by her family, sure. But she'd miss this place, it was her home after all. Living here for so long, taking care of Pokemon of all shapes and kinds. Just walking away and leaving it for Arceus knows how long is just...Painful. But she has to. It'd be a good experience for her, after all. Nodding to herself, she twisted the doorknob, pushing the wooden door open.
