Kay and Patrick had, to their disapproval, no classes together. They had eventually found ways to communicate through waves and quick comments in the halls, and passing notes on the way to class. This left them to hang out during their lunch period, which lead to a lot of milk through the sinuses.
Ten more minutes and I still haven’t figured out what this is supposed to mean… Kay thought, scrunching up her eyebrows towards the note Patrick had handed her before class. She knew it was important because he made it a point to wait outside the classroom and hand it to her. Which, wouldn’t have struck her as odd, but...his class was on the other side of the building...on the second floor. She watched him smile and then take off running in the other direction toward the stairs. Nerd.
It was a crude picture, and she was only certain of a few details. There was a stage, which had a little stick figure band on it. The drummer had glasses and the title “ME,” the guitarist looked completely bored with what was going on, and the singer (at least Kay thought it was) looked like he was eating a stick with a golfball on the end. Which she realised eventually was a microphone. Below that was a crowd with a figure in the back wearing a long ponytail and a smile and the title “(hopefully) YOU”
Above the picture was a jumble of words that she couldn’t make out. Something about being excited. Is he trying to draw me a picture of him being in a band and me cheering him on? Is he trying to like, predict the future or something? Kay had just put the note up and decided to actually work on her english project when the bell rang, signalling lunch. Perfect.
By the time Kay made her way down the hall to the cafeteria, Carson and Jamie were already at their table, making eyes and weak conversation. It was ironically hilarious that Carson was determined to say that Patrick and Kay needed to date, but couldn’t see that her and Jamie needed to do it themselves. They’d be so good for each other...too bad they’re so oblivious.
“‘Sup nerds, the party has arrived.” Then there was Kevin. Kay didn’t care much for Kevin, but he was one of Patrick’s friends, so she dealt. He was a jerk, and thought just because he had (barely) mediocre singing skills, if you could even call it that, that he was so cool and much better than everyone at the school. And everyone knew Kay hated him, except him. He thought she was so infatuated with him that she was just constantly playing hard to get and when even told to his face that he sucked major chode, he took it as a joke and continued to harass the girls. ugh.
Kay rolled her eyes, and began to back away from the table when she bumped into someone. This brought out a ton of 'excuse me’s' and "i'm so sorry’s' until she realised it was just Patrick.
“Hey, watch where you’re going Moron.” He said through a giant grin.
“No, you watch where you’re going Stump-hf.” The emphasis on the silent ‘h’ is what made it the perfect joke “So, I’m gonna go get food, I’ll be back soon.”
“Wait, hold up I’ll come with.” She didn’t. “Hey!” Patrick caught up and slipped into sequence beside Kay, the way they generally took when in school. “So, did you like my drawing? I know my stick figures rock and everything, so it should sell for a lot.” He was so happily adorable sometimes.
“I literally understand nothing that’s going on in it, so I think I need you to elaborate.” She pulled the picture from her pocket and unfolded it.
“Okay, so that’s me.”
“Duh.”
“And that’s you.”
“Yeah.”
“And this is me and the guys playing a show and doing super rad at it.”
“So...this is super important why?...Like I mean you’re always super rad when you play, it’s just so out of the blue.”
