[yo this beginning part is kind of slower-ish but i swear i tried and it gets good-ish toward the middle imo. have fun!]
Kay tied her trench coat tight and put her hands in the pockets as she waited for Patrick at the end of Kevin’s driveway. It was a little past eight and pitch black, the sky littered with stars and street lamps while the ground was covered in children in flashy costumes and reflector stickers. Kids ran past screaming about candy and about their costumes. And with the little kids came the teenagers, jumping a child and snagging their pillow case or bag or something, pocketing the loot. Cruel… Kay prided herself over the fact that she wasn’t was malevolent like most other kids. Just a simple girl who liked video games, school, and hoped to one day change the world. Like that was ever going to happen.
Patrick came down the driveway, his short hair standing up in the back along with parts of the front. He pushed his glasses up, turned his back to Kay. “Hey could you help me untuck my cape from inside my jacket?” She smiled and began pulling at the neck of the cape, slowly pulling it out. “Thanks. Now,” he clapped his hands together “Where to?”
“I was thinking we could walk around. Hang out at the park, crash a few par-tays on the way.” Kay joked, “or we could call Jay and ask him to come pick us up. Or your mom. It’s all up to you.”
“How about we just walk back.” Patrick shrugged, heading down the sidewalk. Kay quickly followed.
“Patrick we live on the other side of town. It’s going to take hours.”
“Not hours, just…an hour at most. Come on, it’ll be fun.” Patrick laughed, looking at his watch.
They made their way through the streets without incident so far, taking the way down town because it was better lit. Even here, children were walking up and down the street with their chaperones, smiling, laughing, and shoving candy in their mouths.
“I think it’s amazing that on certain days of the year it seems like everyone bands together to make the world a better place….but then you have the people that put razorblades in their caramel apples.” Kay commented, pointing in the general direction of a mother throwing a child’s apple away.
Patrick shrugged and smiled, pulling his cell phone from his pocket. “See look, we’re almost halfway to our neighborhood and it’s only 8:50.”
“Yeah, almost an hour and we’re not even halfway there. It’s gonna be another hour and a half to get home.” I mean I’m not complaining too much,…it’s just. Ew. “Anyway. What exactly are we going to do when we get back?” Kay asked, nudging him with her shoulder.
“I dunno, we could,...watch Nightmare since Kevin didn’t want to. Or maybe whip out some board games. Do homework, that’s another thing.” Patrick shrugged and smiled.
“Oh my god, look at that. Patrick Martin Stumph suggested doing homework. Blasphemy.” Kay shook her head as Patrick chuckled. “No, but I’m sure Uncle Jay is going to probably put us on candy duty if there’s still kids, but I guess we could watch some more movies, pig out. The usual.”
“Well, we’ve got an adventure ahead of us, so let’s get going.” Patrick laughed, and picked a piece of candy off of the ground.
“Patrick.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re not going to eat that are you?”
“What! It’s still in the wrapper, its safe!” He objected. Kay reached over and hit it out of his hands, and began to walk away. Patrick stood there staring at it, and eventually followed behind.
