"Ew. So, he just-" Carson reached up to touch the red and brown scab forming under and around the stitches on Kay's face. She smacked her hand away, and walked back over to the couch. Carson closed the door and followed, plopping next to Kay, sprawling immediately. She shook snow from her arms, spreading water across the room.

"Carson...."

"Yeah?"

"...It's on my scab."

"What?"

"Water. And it's cold.... I want to wipe it away, but I'm not supposed to touch it or the skin around it. UGH." Kay thrashed her head violently in a vain attempt to throw it off. She sighed and pulled her blanket back over herself and now Carson. "So, how was your night?"

"Mostly just sat around, listened to music, read...I did the rest of the work for the next couple of months in math." Carson shrugged like it was nothing, and Kay got into her face.

"What...Carson....That is not okay. You're sharing, slash tutoring me forever. You have no choice."

"It's easy! It's just Logarithms, and a whole other bunch of stuff."

"..."

"...That means you'll be able to do it without a problem. It's like logic and stuff. Stuff you're good at." She pushed her face away and laughed.

"I hope so. Because I cannot fail any classes."

"So, where's Patty boy at? He's never not at your side." Carson poked at Kay's arm.

"He's with his dad this weekend, he'll be back tomorrow night. Also, don't call him 'Patty boy.'"

"Whatever you say...what are you and Patty Man gonna be for Halloween?" Carson asked making devil horns on the two of their heads.

"Today's the...twenty second, right?...I haven't really thought of anything in particular...are we even going to do anything? I mean we could go trick or treating,...or maybe just hang out somewhere?" Kay sighed and turned down the television, getting annoyed by the laugh track.

"You could be Elvira...Wednesday? Or you and Patrick can be Jack and Sally!" Carson hit Kay in the chest from excitement.

"...Well,...for one, OW, two, I don't know, depends on what we can get done. I wonder if Uncle Jay has any Halloween decorations in the attic...here. Let's go see."

The two wandered around the not-quite-as-dusty-as-it-could-have-been attic, kicking around boxes and playing with the weird stuff they found. All around were memories. Grandma and Grandpa's old pictures, and important items. Jay's baseball trophies, and Kay's mother's school paperwork. And along with it all were the things from Kay's house. Empty chairs at an empty table, boxes of papers, photos and old family relics. It brought a weight onto Kay's neck, and her spine, and forming a lump in her throat.

"Hey, I know we had some, but not a lot. I'll have to ask Jay where they are later..." She bent over to rummage through an open box. It was filled with a ton of old photos. Her grandparents as kids, her parents, Kay as a baby. "Mega downer..." she mumbled under her breath.

"Who's that?" Carson pointed to a photo of her mom and Jay from a Christmas years ago. "They're cute."

"...that's Jay. Oh my god you think my Uncle's hot." A smile tore across her face, and she chuckled, throwing the album back into the box. "I'm telling him later."

"No you're not."

"Uh, yeah." Kay dashed down the attic stairs laughing hysterically, Carson following close behind.

Carson had fallen asleep on the couch hours ago, and Kay was just now turning in herself.

She watched as snow fell onto the yard, covering the tree branches and Uncle Jay's ugly pink flamingos. The cold radiated off of the glass, sending a shiver down Kay's arm, and making her finally decide to go to bed and stop staring creepily out the window.

She turned from the window and walked past the couch. "Good night you loser." She said to Carson's sleeping being. As she trudged up the stairs, she heard the phone start ringing in her room. She hurried up the rest and pushed through the door. "Hello?"

"Hey Kay."

"Patrick?"

"Yeah. I wanted to call and talk for a few minutes. See how you were doing."

"Patrick it's like,...eleven thirty to be exact."

"I know...I've just been hanging out with my dad all day." He sighed into the phone. "You just need to get a phone so we can text each other."

"I don't have the money for a cell phone, you know that. But anyway. What's up with you?"

"Me and my dad hung out in Chicago today. Oh, and he sends his best wishes because of your lip...um,...I got some new records today. I got a Bowie, and then I got a..." Patrick happily went on about his new records, slipping over his words. Kay had changed and crawled into bed already, listening to each word Patrick said.

"Cool...I'm still stuck at that one part in Mario 64. Slept some. Me and Carson played around in the attic..." She yawned violently into the receiver. Patrick went on about this really cool street performer they saw outside of the record shop. "Patrick...it all sounds cool...but can you tell me in the morning, or whenever you come home...I'm just about to pass out and I don't wanna be rude."

"Oh, alright. Night Kay. I'll see you either tomorrow or Monday morning. Sleep tight and don't fall off your bed again." Patrick chuckled.

"Shut up, that happened once....Night. See you." Kay made a mock kissing noise into the microphone and hung up. She then turned out her lamp and rolled over, sighing into her pillow.

Patrick was such a nerd and she loved it.

This was dumb and short and I'm sorry. I'm going for the day to day life thing instead of fast forwarding through the years that make people who they are.

I'm just trying to upload something for now. I may add onto it, but I don't know.

But I do know I'm going to write some and upload another chapter or two tomorrow , so stay tuned, comment, rate, and possibly follow for more????!!?!?!?!?alsohappylatehalloween.
