"What are you doing now?" I ask Alex when he walks out of his Law elective. The surprise on Alex's face when he sees me is priceless. He didn't tell me that he had a class so he wasn't expecting me to show up out of nowhere.
"How did you even know where I was?" Alex questions. "Did you follow me?"
"No. I didn't follow you. It turns out Harley is a good detective and is able to read a timetable." I explain. "He told me where you were."
"Oh." Alex says. "Why did you ask Harley where I was?"
It's been a few days since I saw Alex and I needed to see him again. "I wanted to see you. I told you I would see you soon. Now is soon." I shrug. "Also, you didn't answer my question."
"I'm supposed to study for a pop quiz." Alex finally answers.
"Do you think you can leave it for a couple of hours? I want to show you something."
"What do you want to show me? Can you show me now?" Alex asks.
"It's a place, not a thing. I can't show you here."
"I really should study for this pop quiz." Alex says, nervously, his eyes on mine, gaging my reaction.
"I can help you." I offer. "I can show you this place and then we can come back and study. Please. I haven't seen you in a while. I want to spend time with you. Away from this campus." Never have I ever sounded so desperate before but I'm running out of time to win this bet. I need to up my game.
"We need to stop at the dormitories though." Alex tells me. "I want to drop these books off."
"Sure, and you might want to get changed too." I say taking note of his button up plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled to his elbows and his jeans.
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Alex asks, looking at his outfit trying to find a fault in it.
"It's just not right for where we're going." I tell him.
We walk through the campus from one building all the way across to Building C, where his room is.
Alex pulls a keychain from his pocket and uses one of the many keys on there to gain access to the room. He places his book bag down on his desk before turning to face me.
"So, what exactly do I need to wear for the place we're going?" Alex questions.
"Shorts and a tee-shirt." I say, automatically. "Something comfortable." I add, hoping he doesn't ask too many more questions. I don't want to spoil the surprise before we even get there. I'm just hoping Alex likes what I have in mind. All day I have been turning over ideas in my head and this is the best, less cliched plan I could come up with.
Alex opens his closet doors and goes through all the clothes in there, carefully.
"It's not a fashion show." I tell him. "It doesn't have to be perfect." If we don't go soon then we might miss our chance for some cheesy romance bullshit. I can't let that happen.
"Okay." Alex says. "Do you mind turning around?" Alex asks.
"Seriously?" I ask. "Are we really doing this again?" I ask, though I can't help but smile.
"Seriously." Alex confirms. "We're doing this again." Alex gives me a small smile but it makes my heart flip in my chest. What the fuck is this bullshit? This never happens to me. I hate the way Alex makes me feel sometimes. Honestly.
Still, I turn around so I can't watch as Alex changes into whatever outfit he's chosen.
"I'm ready." Alex announces after a few moments and I spin around and what I see wasn't at all what I was expecting.
He's wearing a short sleeve, loose fitting, white button up shirt paired with a pair of faded blue denim shorts. He looks good. Better than good in fact. He looks gorgeous.
