Have your crush ever dropped hints, and you thought he liked you? Has he ever chose you over some other girls, giving you the hope they he might have a crush on you as well?

But then when you go to confess, you get the hardest and worst rejection ever?

This was what happened to Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

She thought - but she was so wrong! She thought maybe Adrien actually liked her. She thought Adrien was just dropping hints of his crush on her.

Those times he chose her over many girls.

"Marinette, let's be partners. I honestly don't want to be partnered up with Chloe."

Those times he was at her side.

"Chloe, stop that! Marinette is a nice hard-working girl. You have no right to bully her just because you're jealous!"

Those times he surprised her.

"No, it wasn't me that did it. Actually, Adrien planned your birthday party. You must be so happy, Marinette."

But what went horribly wrong?

"I'm sorry Marinette, but I can't return your feelings. I feel so bad, and you are a nice, hard-working, awesome girl. It's just that...

It's just I already have someone else that I like. Again, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you."

How was she even able to put on a fake smile, to give him fake words about how she was okay.

"No, it's fine Adrien. Haha, I should have expected this. Of course Adrien Agreste already has another crush. I shouldn't have bothered you in the first place."

And maybe - maybe he noticed her pain. Maybe he knew she was seriously hurt when she took off to the bathroom to spill all her tears in the sink.

But then again - maybe he didn't even care.

"Marinette, are you still in there?" Alya's voice asked from outside of the bathroom. Marinette hadn't even been checking the time. How long was she in here for?

"Y-yeah," She sniffed and grabbed a tissue. Then she started wiping the new tears that exploded out of her eyes. "I-i-m sorry. I-it j-just hur-ts."

Alya walked in and pulled her into a hug. "I'm so sorry this happened Marinette. Maybe I should have asked him first to see if he already had another person. I'm sorry you're feeling so pained."

"It's not your fault, Alya." She tried not to think about it. "I want to go home. Sorry about all this"

Alya watched as her bestie picked up her bag and left the bathroom. She bit her lip at the thought of what Marinette was going to do, so she sent her a quick text.

Alya - don't worry. It will get better soon. I promise that it's not going to stay like this forever.

Marinette - thank you, Alya. No wonder you're the best.

Alya smiled and put her phone away. Then she made her way out of the bathroom. Just like she wanted, she bumped into Adrien.

"Alya, have you seen Marinette?"

Alya clenched a fist. "Why are you looking for her?! So after you reject her, you decide to look for her? Why, to hurt her more?"

"Alya, calm down. I just-" Adrien looked down. He was trying to find the right words to use. "I just don't like her in that sort of way."

"Whatever!" Alya muttered angrily and started walking away from him. "Who knows who you like?!"

Adrien stood there, frozen. He bit his lip knowing he had just hurt Marinette, the lovely, smart, nice, awesome bluenette girl. He had hurt her and she was probably not going to be the same.

It hurt him to hurt one of his best friends. He came to school, to be able to see that smile on her face, to see her talk back at Chloe in such a sassy way and not get in trouble with it. He came to school, knowing that he got such an amazing friend.

What he never knew, was that Marinette had been crushing on him. He never knew she liked him, that she had been staring at him from far away with such admiration.

Just like he did with Ladybug.

He knew how rejection hurt so much, he knew Marinette was not going to let this pass as if nothing had happened. But if Ladybug hasn't managed to be the one he loved, Marinette would be in his heart.

I'm so sorry, Marinette.

I didn't know. I never meant to hurt you.

-

Coming to school, knowing that your crush didn't like you, and had never liked you at all, was one of the hardest things for Marinette.

When she got to class, instantly Chloe Bourgeois, daughter of the Mayor, threw a crumpled paper at her and started to laugh.

"I heard Adri-kins rejected you. How do you feel about that, Marinette?! She laughed as if it was the funniest thing ever. "You should have known that Adrien never liked you. Obviously he liked me!"

Everyone in class stayed quiet, watching as Chloe did this. Adrien, Alya or Nino wasn't in class yet, and Marinette didn't feel the need to fight back at Chloe, so no one was there to talk back to her.

Nobody wanted to trigger Chloe Bourgeois. Nobody wanted to get the Mayor to take care of problems.

One time a kid had insulted Chloe, and instantly Chloe had called her father and had the kid expelled.

Marinette just went to her seat with no words. Chloe pointed and laughed at her. At that time Nino came in, wondering what was happening and took his seat.

It was then that he noticed Marinette bending down. She was shaking so much that he knew something was wrong. He tapped her shoulder.

"Hey, you cool?"

Marinette looked up at him, then gave him a fake smile. "Y-yeah."

Her eyes were puffy, so Nino could obviously tell that she had been crying. He looked back at Chloe who was giggling in her seat.

"Mind your own business, Bourgeois!" He gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. "You wouldn't like it if someone made fun of you! So why are you hurting others?!"

"Nino, it's okay," Marinette choked out the words. "She can do whatever she likes. I don't care."

Nino hesitated, but nodded and turned back to the front.

"What? It's not my fault that Adri-kins rejected her, and broke her fragile heart!" She cracked up again. At that time Adrien walked in.

"W-what?" He glared at Chloe.

"E-excuse me!" Marinette stood from her seat and took off out of the classroom. She thought this would have been easier. Unfortunately, Chloe just had to make everything harder for her.

"Marinette, wait!" Nino stood up as well and took off after her.

"Chloe, what did you say?!" Adrien clenched a fist. He glared at Chloe while Chloe moved away. She had never seen Adrien so mad.

"What? I just told her that she wasn't worth your attention-"

"You know who's not worth my attention?!" He yelled. "YOU!" And he too left the room.
