This story is about how I, Alyssa Grace, became famous.
Now sure there's always those cliche stories about how some person gets lucky and is able to work for a record label, or how some person just stumbles upon a famous actor and falls in love with...
While driving to Chase's Dad's house, Chase and I mostly sat in silence. I then decided to speak up,
"So, why does Brook go to her dad's? Like I know she doesn't go everyday. Does something trigger it?"
"Well.. usually when she has a fight with our mother. They fight so much. But sometimes it's too much for Brook to handle, so she goes and locks herself in her room. But I guess now I know she's actually hanging out with Dad."
"Is that such a bad thing though? I mean, what's so wrong with your dad?" I asked.
It was silent for a few minutes. It was as if Chase had to think about his answer. Then he spoke up,
"Okay look, I'm going to tell you something that nobody else knows.. only my mother and I. Not even Brook knows about this. Just promise you won't tell anyone."
"I promise. But I'm a little worried. What's going on?"
"Well, my father is a scientist. He works at Colossal Corp. There, he does experiments and stuff.." Chase paused for a minute.
"What's so wrong with experiments?" I asked him.
"Well.. they aren't just on rats and animals. He does experiments on.. humans too."
Oh my god.
"Sometimes without their permission too.." Chase said.
"Oh god. I- is that why Brook doesn't know about this?"
"Well, it would break her heart if she found out that our father, her 'hero' was actually someone who experiments on humans."
"But Chase, she has a right to know!"
"Hey! You said you wouldn't tell anyone. That includes her.."
"I know. But that's not my secret to tell. It's yours. You have to tell her Chase. Otherwise she won't know why your dragging her away from her father. She will just think your being unreasonable because of personal issues when really it's just not safe for her." I explained.
"Look, I know it'll be hard, but she has to know Chase. I'm serious."
"Your right. I know.. I know your right. I just wish I wasn't the one who had to tell her.."
"I know. You said that her father was her 'hero.' What did you mean by that?"
"Well.. he used to protect her from mom. Every time they argued, our father was there to tell our mother to stop annoying her. In a way, she felt protected by him." Chase explained.
"..and you?"
"What about me?"
"Do you feel the same way? Or did you?"
"No. My dad wasn't always there for me. He always had some business to do at the Lab."
"How come Brook's dad didn't tell her about the lab? Brook surely would have asked right?"
"Well.. he was ashamed. But he felt as though he has to do these things. I can't exactly tell him how to do his job but.. doing human experiments without their consent isn't good, and he knows it too." Chase explained to me.
"I'm so sorry Chase. I never knew about your father. Brook never talked about him. It's.. weird. I only knew about you and your mother. I can't believe I didn't notice that she never talked about him.."
"It's okay Alyssa. You didn't know, and it wasn't even your concern."
I nodded, then it was quiet for a moment. Then Chase said,
"And I'd like to thank you.. for coming with me."
I was shocked by his statement.
Chase? Thanking... me?
"Well.. your very welcome." I said smiling.
I started to blush a little, so I decided to look out the window so he couldn't see my face.
