Alyssa's POV:

After finally escaping the Lab, we drove straight back to Chase's house. We couldn't risk Brook's Father seeing us with his device and had to come up with a plan.

"What if I lure her away from her father? I'm her best friend she'll listen to me.." I said while Chase drove.

"Alyssa.. theres something you should know. There was a note that my father was about to send the military. That machine is used to make people only care about what YOU want them to care about. Otherwise they have no emotions for anyone else. He was going to give this to the military to use on soldiers so they won't hold back when attacking..." Chase explained sadly.

"Wait so your saying.."

"Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying."

"She doesn't care for me?" I asked, with a sad look in my eyes.

"I'm sorry Alyssa. Until we find a way to save her.. Brook isn't your best friend anymore. If anything your like a stranger to her. My father is insane with his experiments. Like on his own daughter? Who's next..?"

"Apparently the military.." I frowned.

"Those poor soldiers are going to suffer if we don't find a way to fix this."

"Wait but WE have the machine, so your dad can't give it away.." I realized but Chase corrected me,

"Yeah but he can always make more. He's the creator of this anyway."

"A machine that controls what you care about and what you don't.. I can't believe your dad is that insane right now. I can't even believe this is a THING!" I exclaimed, starting to panic.

"Don't worry Alyssa. We will figure this out." Chase reassured me as he pulled up at his driveway.

"Wait.. my mom's home?" Chase asked as he saw his mom's car parked at the driveway.

"I thought you said she'd be on a business trip.."

"Yeah.. she was. I guess she came home early? But why?" Chase asked.

"I guess that's a question your going to have to ask her.. how do we sneak this device in?"

"We don't. We leave it in the car and tomorrow we can deal with it. You can come inside for a little though."

"Yeah, sounds good." I replied as we entered the home.

"Mom..?" Chase called out as no one answered.

The sound of footsteps came from upstairs. Chase and I decided to see what was going on.

"Um mom?" Chase asked as he entered the master bedroom.

Ms.Saunders was scrambling through her papers and other little objects that were in her drawer by her bed. She seemed to be looking for something.

"No no no no... where is it?" Ms.Saunders mumbled, still not noticing Chase and I.

"Um.. excuse me? Ms.Saunders?" I spoke up as Ms.Saunders faced me.

"Oh.. Alyssa! When did you get here? Chase.. where's your sister is she with you?"

"Mom, What were you looking for?"

"Oh.. nothing honey, nothing too important."

"Oh well how was work?"

"It was great! Today I travelled to Toronto to talk to the singer Shawn Mendes.. such a sweet guy you know? We were talking about all the rumors spreading about him and Hailey Bieber and stuff. Anyway, how was everything here? Did you destroy anything while I was gone?" Ms.Saunders asked.

"Oh nothing to worry about Mom. I'm glad you had fun though."

"Of course."

"Ms.Saunders? Chase was telling me you were going to be on your business trip for the whole week.. so why are you here early? Something happen?" I asked.

"Oh right! I felt bad for leaving Brook because we had a really big fight the day I was leaving so I decided to come home early. Speaking of Brooklyn.. has anyone seen her?"

"Oh mom... she's at dad's." Chase said nervously, putting a frown on Ms.Saunder's face.

"WHAT?! She's not supposed to be there!" She said shocked.

"We know.. we tried to stop her but-.." I told Ms.Saunders when she cut me off,

"But what? She didn't want to leave? Maybe our fight effected Brook too much.."

"Or maybe.." Ms.Saunders continued,

"Your father did something to her.. Chase you know what I'm talking about right?"

"He experimented on Brook?" I asked Ms.Saunders as she frowned again,

"How did you-.. CHASE!"

"I'm sorry I had to tell her mom! I couldn't lie to her.."

When Chase said that I blushed a little, then immediately remembered what was going on and relaxed my face,

"Don't blame him Ms.Saunders, I asked him. He was just telling me the truth." I defended Chase.

"Fine... but yes. I'm worried he could've done that. When your father filed the divorce, I was planning to do that earlier too. To be honest it was right after Brook was almost part of his experiments until I stopped him. I took Brook and we didn't talk for a while. That's when your father stayed at work later because he didn't want to come home. Then he divorced me and I only agreed because he almost hurt Brooklyn." Ms.Saunders explained.

"Wait.. how come I didnt know about that?" Chase asked.

"Well you know now right? Plus, I didn't want to put you through knowing that.. knowing that your sister could've been hurt by your father, the same man you wanted me to leave awhile a go. I just didn't want you to have to tell me 'I told you so' and hate me forever because I could've prevented this." Ms.Saunders said.

"It's okay mom. I don't hate you."

"Well.. I can't force Brook out of his home, she's going to have to make that decision on her own." Ms.Saunders said.

"She'll have to make that decision on her own.." HA! Not if I have something to say about it!

Author's Note: Hey! So Chase and Alyssa "safely" got the machine and escaped the lab, but they still need to find a way to save Brooklyn. What will happen? Will Chase and Alyssa get closer? (lol I mean they are hanging out more soo 👀)
