Science Class C-137 ~ A Rick x Morty fanfic

Chapter 4

Morty POV
I nervously look around at my new classmates, knowing that I shouldn't even be here. I've only ever seen two of these kids, Jessica's friend Marissa, and Rick.

Wait no, that's not all. I look around one more time, more thoroughly, and do a small double take when I process who I'm seeing. She's here. In this class. Right now. Oh man, oh man, oh man, I look at Jessica. I start panicking inside, how did I miss her?

I stop and realize how weird it would look to Jessica, with me staring in alarm, my eyes wide with surprise and a little fear. Rick notices that something's up and follows my gaze, I look up at him. He smiles menacingly, oh no. I'm worried now.    

He says something, "Now you're following me on Instagram? I didn't take you as the stalker type." Oh geez, he's talking way too loud. People are looking now, "Tsk tsk. Now you're stalking Jessica too?" My face goes red, but I'm stuck on something he said.

Wait a minute, ignoring the comment about Jessica, I reply to him in a hushed voice so that I'm not heard by anyone else, "What the hell do you mean, Rick? I'm not following you."

He pulls out his phone and there I see that he's right. Aw man, I must have accidentally followed him instead of Jessica.

I yell at him, "I meant to follow Jessica!"

Jessica turns around and says, "Wait, what about me?"

Rick looks embarrassed for me now, the jerk. But he still intentionally makes it worse. "So you are stalking her then?" He says it loudly, again.

I open my mouth to argue, but I'm interrupted by Mrs. Sanchez, who walks into the classroom.

"Good morning class!" She says, both brightly and tiredly. How even? She continues, "We have two new students who got an upgrade from Mrs. Goldenfold's classes!"

The students look at us. Mrs. Sanchez opens her mouth again, "This is Morty, you probably know him from a previous year," she points at me, then brings her finger towards Rick, "And this is my darling Ricky-kins! They're the transfers from regular ed." 

The class laughs and Rick only waves nonchalantly, but I can tell he's more than just a bit embarrassed. "It's Rick," He says smoothly, and we take our seats, next to each other.

There's a light splash of red on his cheeks. I see my chance to get him back for being rude. To be fair I owe him and he could reveal me whenever he wants, though it'd get him in a bit of trouble, too. Then again, he was a giant pRick. It's not a good idea, but I say it anyways.

"Aw geez, it must really nice to have a mom that loving, Rick!" I say, a little too loudly, and it gets a few snickers. But then I remembered how I don't have one. I should've kept quiet, I shouldn't have teased him about his mom.

The blush is more prominent now, it's kind of cute actually. I see his face growing darker, he's mad. He glares at me angrily, I realize it really wasn't a good idea to comment.

"Not really," he says, loudly. The class has moved on but a few students look over. "It's kind of annoying," he continues. Mrs. Sanchez is talking about some partner thing. I stopped listening to talk to Rick earlier.

I glare, "Don't be like that, one day you'll lose her and it'll be too late and you'll wish you were nicer to her." Rick looks confused, but definitely still pissed. I realize what I said, I want to look down but I have to keep staring him in the face, he has to know.

"What, is your mommy dead or something?" I immediately look down, and don't say anything. My eyes are watering, this is another time when I should've kept quiet. I'm such a fucking mistake.

"Wait, is she really...? Oh... shit man..." He looks down too. I'm still silent, and  I'm still staring at my desk. The teacher is looking at us now.

"Ricky, Morty? Are you two paying attention to this?" Our teacher chides us. "We're starting a project today."
