Guys I'm not dead I swear... Here's an update!
Morty POV
A few other students are snickering at the teacher's name for Rick, but I only had ears for the last part of her warning.I gulped heavily when Mrs. Sanchez's words finally sunk in. A project, already? I look around the room, panicking slightly, we have a fucking project? We haven't even been in school for a week!
I let out a breathy sigh and bang my head on my desk, it ended up being a little louder than I thought it would be, and it startled me a bit. A few kids looked over when they heard the noise, but I doubt they thought too much of it. I sigh again, this time a lot quieter, I don't know anybody in here!
Should I ask Rick? I don't really know him that well, but I'm not sure if I have much of a choice. I briefly think about asking Jessica, but I know I'd chicken out or make a fool of myself, just like all the other times I try to talk to the cute redhead. She's also probably already partnering with her friend, Marissa...
I guess Rick is my best bet. I look over at him, he seems a little angry. Rick is looking at his mom with a dark expression and his fists clenched. He's obviously just as annoyed as I am about this partner project nonsense, probably even more so.
He catches my gaze and raises one eyebrow. I blush and sink a little into my seat, and I pointedly mouth my question. He looks confused for a moment before a look of annoyed resignation flashes over his face, he glares lightly and nods.
I sigh again, this time with relief when he looks away, not before giving me an intense, searching stare. I look over at Rick's mom, with determination; I will keep up this year, god damnit!
Rick himself clearly doesn't like me much, but we both know that I'll need to stick by his side if I don't want to give us away. With him helping me, there's no way I can fail this year!
-----------------------------------------
Half an hour later, the teacher coughs, startling both Jessica, who I was staring at, and me.
Crap, was I spacing out again? Ah geez, I really need to get my shit together if I don't want to fail. The teacher coughs again, louder, and this time I look at her. But it isn't me she's looking at, it's Marissa.
Jessica's brunette friend seems to have fallen asleep in her desk. I see a small trail of drool coming from her mouth, and I hear her quiet snores now that the class has gone silent.
Rick tsks under his breath in a slightly unnerving unison with his mother, and they both blink when they realize that they made the same noise at the same time. I stare a little, my eyes flickering back and forth between the teacher and her son, who are both making the exact same scowl at the slumbering girl.
Their synchrony is weird, but I think I'm the only one who notices it. All eyes are still on Jessica and the friend she's just started shaking awake.
Marissa wakes, finally, to the twin glares of Mrs. Sanchez and Rick. She blinks wearily and peers around the room, yelping indignantly when she sees all the eyes on her. The short brunette wipes the small puddle of drool with her sleeve and turns scarlet.
Rick scoffs and Jessica looks embarrassed for her friend. The pretty redheaded girl, as always, looks flawless, and I notice that Rick looks pretty good too. I switch my gaze to him, noticing how clear and smooth his skin looks, as well as his shining light blue hair. It looks soft, I wonder what it feels like...
Wait, did I just think that?!
