Cold, sad, alone,
Between learning names and playing games
A smile slowly begins to form,
Getting to know people, finally becoming equal.
A girl begins to transform.
Warm, safe, sound,
Feeling okay, and able to play,
Friendships come out of the woodwork,
No more hiding, no more sliding,
Everyday of class moving like clockwork
Broken, Ruined, Desperate
Words can be killers and words can be triggers
Words can be knives, and words can be daggers,
Words have meaning, and words can be so demeaning,
Words, words,words, words,
Words.
Scared, Shaken, Upset,
No longer safe, no longer in this place,
The girl becomes distant,
Slowly shutting down, giving in to the breakdown,
The girl is resistant,
Words, Words, Words,
She feels targeted,
She feels alone,
She feels so closeted,
She feels like only skin and bone,
Betrayed, denounced, doubled-crossed,
The feeling of safety is gone,
The smile ripped from her face,
The final line has been drawn,
She no longer wants to be in this place.
