Max was lying down in bed. It was an odd first day. She couldn't explain, let alone grasp, what was so odd about it though. So she closed her eyes to relax herself.

Her mom was in the kitchen downstairs and her dad was at work. She had three sisters, one older and one younger. They all had dark auburn hair, except her. She always felt like the odd one out. Her mom is a perky housewife who loves to bake and plan parties. Her big sister was a straight A student in school and had started university last year. She lives in a hostel now, far from home. Good riddance, Max thought. She had a soft spot for her little sister Jay-Jay though. she smiled at a cute memory of her adorable younger sister.

When she came home, her mom on cue started bombarding her with questions about her first day. Max tried to keep a cheery expression on her face. "It was fine," she said simply with a hint of finality in her tone. She hoped her mother noticed. But to her dismay, her mother continued the interrogation, pressuring her for more detail and by the time she reached her room, she felt harassed and completely worn out. Her parents wanted her to be more social, have friends and extracurricular activities. But Max disliked most of the kids at school, if not all. She did try and make her parents regret pushing her to be more social though. This was last year, and she didn't want to think about it.

She thought about how Damon would have more friends now, popular girls and guys at school. She sighed at this, it wasn't that she wanted to be popular because she didn't. She was afraid of losing Damon though. At the same time, she refused to be the one to hold him back. He's a part of a different crowd now. Would they approve of his hanging out with a social outcast like her? Or worse, would he still want to be friends with her?

These questions and more gnawed at her mind as she lay there. She sighed and finally gave into her drowsiness.
