I woke up, early on a sunny New York day, to the sound of taxis, and buses and the rush of the busy city outside my bedroom window.
I looked at my alarm clock by my bed to find in was still only six thirty AM. Might as well get up, I thought to myself, I always was an early riser.
I got out of my pink and blue pock-dotted bed and put on my blue bunny slippers.
I got them a few years ago, I had wanted to get them in pink, but dad had insisted.
"No, no, blue is way better trust me pink is alright I guess but the best bunny slippers, they're blue."
I gave in, bought the blue bunny slippers. I was glad I did, because I loved them now. They still fitted me because dad, had got the wrong shoe size. I was annoyed at first, but he said they would be twice as cosy if they were bigger and they would last me twice as long. Once again, he was right.
I walked past Ty's room, then Mom and Dad's, up into the living room of our small Manhattan apartment. I turned on the TV and just watched some morning chat show until I heard someone else come sneaking up the hall way. It was Dad.
"Your up already?" He yawned, his dark messy hair fallen over his face. He sat down on the coach beside me.
"Yeah, I woke up, and I wasn't gonna go back to sleep." I told him.
"You excited about today?" Dad asked me.
"Of course!" I said, "back to camp!"
"That's good to hear," he replied, ruffling my hair, "all that stuff about school being the best days of your life? Lies, your camp half-blood days are."
"Tell me one of your stories!" I insisted.
"Oh, Lucy they are more than stories, they are the heroic tales of Perseus Jackson and his faithful demigod side-kicks and how they saved the world and kicked some serious monster, titan, giant, and even some godly ass."
"Oh really," Mom appeared, leaning against the door frame, "I think we know who the sidekick really was."
I just giggled, dad really had it coming this time.
"Darling, didn't see you there, we were jus- er- talking about the old days, you know all that stuff, yeah, I'm just gonna go to the bathroom be right back-" he ran off down the hall.
Me and Mom laughed.
"I was no sidekick!" She said, "I saved his son of the sea god behind so many times I've lost count!"
I laughed again. "Is Ty staying in the Poisiden cabin again this year?" I wondered.
"Yeah, his friends are there, like you have all yours in Athena, he fits in."
"Okay, I like the Athena cabin best, all the books!" I said, excitedly.
"I know right," Mom agreed, them she whispered in my ear, "it's the best cabin."
Then, I swore I heard thunder.
