"Why did you ask my mother to leave?" I questioned Gian, holding his cheeks and making him face me, "what's wrong? You look as if you're going to cry, Gian."

"It's nothing, I'm fine. I'm just getting exhausted, that's all." He reassured me with a smile, kissing my lips quickly pulling away from the bed, "Come, let's go cook dinner."

And so, we entered the kitchen where my mother was about to start preparing dinner. Gianluca quickly took over from her, placing the apron around his waist. Every time my mother tried to intervene he would simply tell her that he was more than happier to help out. Seeing Gian cooking reminded me of memories from a year ago. I was at his parent's house, we were invited to a family barbecue as the weather was extremely hot. Gian was asked by his father to help prepare the food and I can remember watching him. I'd never seen him that happy. To be around his family and friends. I felt invisible that day, but as his mother talked to me about how he grew up, asked questions about my life that I really couldn't answer. And most of all on that night, Gian took me to the coast as we sat on the sand and watched the sunset late into the night. It felt like a fairytale, however, it was a reality. Whatever moments I spent around his family, I started to feel more welcome.

Eating dinner was amazing! Gianluca prepared the homemade Italian spaghetti bolognese that we often ate during our alone time. My mother took one bite before her face lit up with pleasure and excitement. She then started to ramble on about how she wanted Gianluca to teach her to make the recipe. But, we told her that she couldn't know about it as it was top secret. That made all of us laugh, as my mother gave a playful frown, taking our finished plates away from me, Gianluca and my brother as we all left the table to do our own things.

By the time we had finished unpacking our clothes and settled down for bed, it had already gotten late. When I checked the time on my phone, it was 11:05 pm. I laid down onto my side of the bed and gave out a heavy and exhausting sighing knowing that me and Gian were the only ones now awake. When I turned over to face where Gianluca was, he had just come out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist. I hurriedly turned over the over way before he noticed I was still awake. I closed my eyes lightly and pretended to be asleep.

"Kat? You still awake, amore?"

I gave no reply.

"Come on I saw you turn over!"

I stayed silent.

"Katia!"

And to my sudden shock and a laugh escaping my mouth, he turned me over to face him as he was half perched on the bed. We stared lovingly at each other for what felt like an eternity before his lips crashed onto mine. My arms rapidly wrapped around his neck as I gave myself into his touch. It was warm and inviting, I wanted to stay in his touch all night. And I knew that this would last, as he kissed and made love throughout the night.

The next morning, I woke up to rustling of wrappers next to me. As I began to open my eyes, I glanced over towards Gianluca who was eating the British food I had brought with us on the journey. My eyes didn't register it at first, but as soon as they snapped open Gianluca froze in place as he was just about to place a bit of Kinder chocolate into his mouth. He stared at me innocently, as the chocolate started to melt in between his fingers as I sat up on my knees on the bed.

"Gian! You weren't supposed to eat them yet!" I yelled, taking the now empty packet of Kinder chocolate bars from him, "You better not have been in the Nutella first thing in the morning."

"You brought Nutella!?" He asked hurriedly, quickly sitting back scared when I glared at him again.

"Every morning I swear you act so childish." I sighed with a laugh, "Don't eat anymore or you'll put on weight."

"I won't, I just got hungry. And I know that's not an excuse right now."

"No, it's not. I can't stay angry at you for long anyway." I smiled, resting my forehead against his and wiping away the leftover chocolate from the corner of his mouth, "And if you were hungry you should've woke me up and we would've gone out and got some breakfast."

"I know, but you were sleeping soundly I didn't want to disturb you. Now get changed, I'd like to explore your home town."

"You mean, you've never been here before?" I asked him, jumping off the bed to search through my clothes on what to wear.

"Not to my knowledge, I don't think so. Your mother does live on a cramped street, doesn't she?"

"I know Gian, I just got used to it when I moved here. I mean, I never found it cramped. Plus, over in the United Kingdom is was quite different. Each estate was big enough to fit cars in your drive, and we lived on a private estate so I had lots of room to play as a child."

"And what would you say about going there for a honeymoon?"

I raised an eyebrow at him, turning to face him, "Gian, that'll probably be never. I mean, I would love to go stay in the holiday home my auntie owns there, but Gian we said that the likelihood of us getting married was very slim."

"Katia, I know this." Gianluca sighed, resting his hands on my shoulders and giving them a squeeze, "But I'm just thinking if we did, how much would it mean to you?"

"It would mean the world to me, Gianluca. Just don't pop the question during the time of crisis okay."

"Noted, now let's go!"

Hand in hand, we walked out onto the small street of my mothers house and walked down into town. Gianluca looked from side to side, admiring the view as we headed down into the beach to enjoy our first day and first vacation together in years.
