Summary: Bolin and Eska cross paths, and Eska spots a certain airbender girl, at Bolin's side. Jealous thoughts ensue.
~
Eska brushed her hair and made her way to the throne, as Desna stretched back on the icy chair.
"Are you ready for the Glacier Spirits Festival?" Eska drawled.
"By a fraction." Desna stood. "It has been a while since we had seen cousin Korra."
Eska had a small smile playing on her face. 'It has been a while since I have seen my turtleduck.'
Desna fixed his long coat. "Well, let us meet them at the docks."
~
The large yacht of Future Industries floated by the planks, and Eska's heart leapt into her chest. Her mind swarmed as the door opened.
Desna nodded toward the older Avatar as she stepped down.
Eska was surprised to note that Korra's hair was cut short and to her shoulders, framing her face.
Beside her was that firebender-Mako?-with his arm snug around her hip.
That Sato heiress made her way down the plank next, and Eska gave a silent smile to her after hugging her cousin.
"Where's Bolin?" Eska managed to choke out.
Korra bit her lip and gazed at Mako while Asami coughed awkwardly.
"He's-He's coming," Mako murmured.
"EYY! Eska! Desna! Nice to see you!"
Eska felt a hot blush rise on her face and Desna scoffed quietly.
"Bolin-" She paused, when she saw a slender, tan girl with shorter hair than Korra. Her green eyes were as bright as Bolin's and as ethereal as Asami's.
Eska felt her eyebrows furrow as she self-consciously looked at her thick, blue, Northern Watertribe cloak, and compared it to the one the girl was wearing. A fluffy, short coat with buttons.
"Eska! Desna! It's been so long," Bolin exclaimed, as the girl beside him giggled.
Eska's heart fell. "Who's that?" The monotone voice took over.
"This," Bolin gestured. "Is Opal. I met her in Zaofu, and she's so awesome! She's an amazing bender, and is so funny!
Eska felt a tiny smile play at her lips, and Korra eyes her cousin warily, while Mako whistled, jerking his view away from the awkward teens.
"Nice to meet you!" Opal's voice was quirky, and Eska thought about her own low-key tone.
Eska nodded and Desna whispered something in her ear. "Why are you so rigid? We must go to the festival."
Hesitantly, Eska smiled at Bolin and Opal again before she turned around, following Mako and Korra who had already started ahead.
It was so much different from two years ago, in the same place. The Glacier Spirits Festival was more beautiful than ever, spirits loomed in the evening light as artificial brightness was posted at every nook and cranny of the festival grounds.
Desna and Asami looked at home-made accessories at one stand. Korra and Mako laughed and chatted over carnival food, moments between them shared in their little space between them.
And Eska stuck out like a sore thumb with Bolin.
Opal fit him so well. Eska never felt jealous, but she nearly wanted to freeze Opal's hands together.
She shook her head and stared off at the other couples and families having a good time.
Once, she remembered at time when Bolin approached her in this very spot.
She remembered how close he was to her, his warmth something she had rarely experienced.
She remembered how he kept his arms around her, as the snow fell.

A/N: THIS WAS NOT MEANT TO BE ANGSTY I SWEAR
I meant to put it as Eska remembering how Bolin used to treat her nicely, and how she accepted the fact that he found someone who was a more better fit for him
And she enjoys the times she had with him *cries*
Hopefully we'll see Eska and Desna in book 4!
I mean,
WHO SAW THAT TRAILER?!
YEAHHH
