Nico and the Super Lungs

Sometimes a baby is simply determined,

To enter the world in a hurry.

Although Nico had special things planned,

He sure caused his Mommy to worry.

Mommy was scared and so full of nerves,

As she rushed to the hospital that night.

She couldn't believe there might be a problem,

Hadn't she done everything right?

Mommy received a lot of attention,

As Nico was not quite prepared.

The doctors and nurses had to get ready,

"He'll soon be here" they declared.

"Nico's lungs are too small", called out the doctors!

But they knew just what he'd need.

"We'll give Mommy super medicine", they'd shout!

So Nico's lungs could grow with speed.

Nico arrived and entered this world,

But Mommy was still quite afraid.

They'd have to stay in the NICU a while,

Their drive home was sadly delayed.

Nico was put in his own heated bed,

Special lights kept his skin glowing.

Preemies are small and arrive somewhat early,

And the NICU is where they keep growing.

Finally one day Nico came home,

And Mommy was so filled with pride.

In spite of the fact she started to notice,

Something was happening on the inside.

Nico would laugh and the whole room would wobble,

He'd sneeze and a window would break.

Mommy would wonder, what could this be?

Could Nico's lungs have caused an earthquake?

Anytime Nico would take a deep breath,

A problem would happen on cue!

Controlling his gift would be very important,

Oh what were Mommy and Nico to do!?!?

Mommy provided the needed support,

To help Nico strive towards his goal.

He tried and tried and then tried some more,

Until it was under control.

Now that Nico could manage his gift,

Mommy said he must have a plan.

"Go find those less fortunate than you,

And provide all the help that you can."

But then an alert came from the news,

A tree cut the power, oh no!

The preemies in the NICU needed some help,

To ensure they continued to grow.

But Mommy had already crafted a plan,

To have Nico help out those in need.

There is no limit to what a preemie can do,

And Mommy knew that he would succeed.

So Nico exhaled with all of his might,

And blew the tree right back in it's place.

The power returned, the preemies were saved,

Nico deserved an embrace.

So Mommy believes as Nico has shown,

and it is most certainly true.

That all babies are born with the chance to achieve,

Whatever they set out to do!
