elena eventually had to leave ruby's house, and he insisted on walking her back.
"i dont live that far away," elena said to him, and he shrugged as they passed under a streetlight.
"gotta make sure you're okay, and maybe i wanna meet your family." he said, and elena grinned at the shorter boy. "today was fun," elena mumbled absentmindedly, and ruby nodded. "i think it's gonna be a good year." he told her, and elena's nostrils flared as she blushed, trying to ignore the way their hands brushed.
when elena and ruby finally made it to her house, her mom was waiting for her.
"elena! i told you to put up the towels before you-" she started, and then noticed ruben. "oh. you've brought a friend. and now you've also brought shame to this household. not you ruben!! but our dirty house to you as our guest." her mom said dramatically, and elena laughed as her mom walked herself to her room.
"so that's my mom," elena said, breaking into a laugh afterwards. elena sat ruby down and went to get her brother. "javier!" she screamed, and soon joel appeared.
"stop calling me by that middle name, sophia." he hissed, and elena rolled her eyes. "go say hi to ruby." she said, and he scoffed before walking off. elena continued her search for yesenia, and tried to avoid constanza and alejandro. she knew ruby wouldn't want to me them, because elena barely liked meeting them.
ruby was sweating.
he tried to hide his armpits but couldn't think of a way that wouldn't be obvious. before he could go further in thought, elena's brother appeared. "joel?" ruby asked, and joel nodded as they high fived.
"glad you're here. elena just about had a aneurism on our way over here." he said smoothly, and even though he was a year younger than him, ruby felt sort of intimidated by the taller boy.
"oh. why?" ruby asked, and the two sat.
"you know. she missed you, couldn't stop thinking about you, all that stupid stuff." joel said nonchalantly, and ruben choked on his spit. "she missed me?" ruben asked, and joel nodded, clearing his throat.
"she had dreams about you. don't tell her i told you that, though." joel whispered, and ruby chuckled as he nodded before drawing a cross over his heart. "that's.. good to know. cool information." ruby said, and before joel could rat elena out anymore, yesenia showed up.
"enia?" ruby asked, and the much-taller girl went up to ruby and hugged him tight. "good to see you!" she said, letting go of the male who just had his face in her boobs. "y-yeah, you too," he said, gulping slightly and looking up at yesenia.
"aw, you're so cute," yesenia coddled, and ruby blushed a deep red and smiled softly. he was gonna thank her when elena showed up, holding a bottle of water in her hands.
"are you smothering ruby?" she asked, and joel stood up. "nah. just welcoming him." he said, and elena rolled her eyes. "you know we're the new ones here, right?" elena asked joel, who flushed. "whatever," he mumbled and stood next to yesenia.
"you guys are all so... tall," ruby muttered, and yesenia laughed. "our dad is 6 foot. mom is 5'10. we have a long way to go." yesenia joked, and ruby paled. "anyways! you guys can go now," elena said, not-so-discreetly dismissing her siblings.
joel stuck his tongue at her as he walked away, and elena threw the bird at him.
"they seem nice." ruby said, and elena laughed as they sat down again. "want some water?" she asked, and he shook his head despite his scratchy throat. elena shrugged, and meant to take a quick swipe of the water, but tragically underestimated the sheer force of the water that was actually inside the bottle.
ruby didn't even notice that elena's shirt was completely soaked through until he heard her squeal and stand up again. "oh my god, this is so embarrassing, please don't leave-" elena rambled, and ruby nodded continuously as his eyes glazed over looking at her boobs that were showing through her wet shirt.
elena told him she'd be right back, and ruby grabbed a throw pillow and tried to hide his boner. he threw his head back, wondering why he was allowed to have such a great day until now.
elena was shuffling through her clean shirts, and finally landed on a plain white tee. she figured she'd change in the bathroom so there'd be less of a chance of someone barging in on her in her room, and tried to quietly make her way to the bathroom.
when she opened the door she did not expect to see ruby with his hand down his pants.
elena sputtered, choking on her spit and sputtering apologies while blushing violently the more she stood there, and eventually turned around to walk away. her heart was beating so loud she could practically hear it, and she still hadn't processed exactly what just happened.
she heard ruby let out a small groan, and wasn't sure if it was a pleasure groan or an embarrassed groan. either way, elena told herself she would never think about what just happened and wouldn't even mention it. ever.
elena changed her shirt, and went to sit in the living room. she casually sat next to ruby, and cleared her throat.
"wanna watch tv?"
the next day, elena woke up to a text from ruby.
: i won't tell if you won't.
elena smiled, texted a quick 'you got it' and checked the time to see it was 12:38. she shuddered, sitting up in her bed. she checked her phone once more and saw she had an incoming call from monse.
"hello?" elena said groggily, stretching a little.
"did you just wake up?" monse asked, and elena nodded, even though monse can't see her. "yeah. i took a 14 hour flight a few days ago, and it hasn't worn off." elena mumbled, and she heard monse scoff.
"get dressed. i'm picking you up in forty minutes." monse said, and before elena could ask for context the call was over. elena groaned again, and looked at her closet from her bed.
she eyed her yellow long sleeve, even though weather in this part of california was unforgiving, and mentally planned her outfit for the day as she went to use the bathroom and brush her teeth.
