To The Late Nights .

Chapter 4

"How's Amelia doing?"  I woke up to a familiar voice.

"She's fine." Scarlet was awake. I got up ,all I could see was a tall figure. Took me a few seconds to find my glasses, finally i could see- 

Dad?? Dad.

"Dad!" I felt myself tearing up again. It's been 5 long years.

"Hey sweetheart. " he hugged me and kissed my cheek. 

"How are you?" he asked.

"I'm fine. You should be worried about mama and Emmanuel." mama was still unconscious. Emmanuel was already munching on some biscuits, they hadn't got to eat dinner last night. Until the stupid driver- my blood was starting to boil. Calm down.

We went to the cafeteria for breakfast, me , Emmanuel, Scarlet and dad. He asked about mama and everything at home. Nothing much changed, I guess, we just didn't go fishing or have movie nights anymore. 

"What's her name?" I asked my dad who had a confused look on his face.

"I mean my newborn sister."  he nodded, understanding my question.

"Well, her name's Steph, Stephanie Wong." my dad's Chinese,mama was American. I got my looks from dad, straight black hair, and my tall height. I don't know where my eating habits came from, just me I guess. Emmanuel had mama's looks, curly dark brown hair, beautiful eyes. Dad looked more tired now, like he hasn't gotten enough sleep in weeks.

"She's going to grow up a very pretty girl, dad." I looked at papa smiling. he gave me a warm smile back in return.

We put the plates into the rack, it was kinda like an IKEA cafeteria. 

On the way back to the ward, I saw a familiar face. Eddy? Instinct, I instantly pulled Scarlet to a hallway.

"Did you see what I saw?? Was that Eddy?! What is he even doing here?" I peeped back down the hall way that I saw him. He was at the registration counter, talking to the same nurse I talked to yesterday, I couldn't read his lips. He then went down the hall with Emmanuel's room, looking to his right, this can't be.

201, 203, 205, 207, 209, 211. He went in? I have to calm the fuck down right now. Did I miscount? I could have, relax.

We reached the ward. As expected Eddy, came out.

"Oh hey, Amelia." gosh he knows me. gosh gosh goshhhhh.

He was polite enough to greet my dad and Scarlet too. Dad went in, Scarlet followed with a smirk on he face saying "You're on your own now girl."

So it was just me and him in the quiet corridor.

"Hey, um Eddy. What are you doing here?" I looked at him, I don't know if he could tell I was shaking. shaking.

"I had to drop by to pass my mom her lunch. She um, she's the nurse at registration counter. So, I asked her which ward your mom was in."  my heart was fluttered ,what a thoughtful boy. 

"Gee,thank you so much. Um. Anything happened in school today?" school has finished, but the seniors had extra classes starting at 1pm.

"Nothing much, just a few hilarious shots I got at the perfect timing" he started to giggle. gee.

"Our eagle mascot slipped when he was cheering during the pep rally. Poor Kevin." then I started to laugh. 

"'Definitely a shot to remember." smiling at each other. I had to go see mama now.

"I guess I'll see you around Amelia. Stay strong aight? " he waved wanting to leave, but it seemed like he had something to tell me.

"By any chance, can I have your number? If that's alright with you." I smiled and nodded. 

"Sure, I'll text you." this just made my morning. Probably my week. He winked, have you seen his eye-smile? gee, I'd go crazy if I saw it again. He walked down the hall, I went back into the ward. 

Was I smiling too hard? Dad and Scarlet were both smiling at me as if I was about to get married with the man of my dreams.

"Crush alert!" Scarlet whispered loudly. It doesn't even count as a whisper anymore,everyone could fucking hear it.

I rolled my eyes at her. "Who was that?" great now dad is asking. 

"He's a friend from school. His mom works here, so he decided to pay a visit. that's all." dad nodded ,convinced with my reason. Thank God he didn't think of it the other way.

Meanwhile, mama was still unconscious. Scarlet and I took turns to take a shower. Emmanuel got discharged, we just need to come back after a week to take out the stitches. Dad took Emmanuel home and gave Scarlet a ride home too. I stayed with mama, I couldn't leave her.  Dr. Hendricks came to check on her,  he said there's no symptoms of seizure which is good. And that, we just have to wait now.

I turned on my phone and texted Eddy. I mean, if I didn't I'd really be a bitch. 

"hey, thank you so much for the visit. here's my number 01234567"

"no biggie. you alright?"

"yeah, im fine. it was just a very long weekend."

"must have been hard for you." along with "i gtg Amelia, ttyl."

"bye eddy" as if he was going somewhere far far away.

Wow. This counts as being friends right? Right. I shook it off my mind, before I get cramps for smiling too much. Yes, that happens.

Secretly inside, I was waiting for him to text back.
