Harry's POV:
I follow Ron and Hermione down to the great hall for breakfast. I hear them bickering up ahead over I-don't-even-know-what. I sigh internally as I think about how much schoolwork I haven't done and the dance tomorrow. I've nearly gotten 'love potioned' three times. In the past week.
I hate school dances.
We arrive just as Malfoy's group walks up. He sneers at us and huffily stalks into the hall. Honestly he huffily stalks everywhere.
"Jerk." Exclaims Ron.
"He didn't even do anything Ronald!" From an exasperated Hermione.
I walk past them, rolling my eyes. "You're both right, can we go eat now?"
As we sit down the mail begins to arrive. Ron gets a package from his mum.
"Please let this be new dress robes! Please!"
One of the other Gryffindor kids snickers. No doubt remembering Ron's lacey fringe. I turn to see if Hermione got a letter when an envelope falls in front of me. It's made of a thick cream paper and has a green wax seal. The kids around me notice.
"Hey, look what Harry's got!"
A crowd gathers around me. Can I never open my mail in peace?
I look over to Run and Hermione. They both have a curious look in their eyes.
"Well, go on Harry."
"Yeah open it!"
"Ron have some patience! You too!"
I say thanks to her in my head as I break the seal. A note is inside. If I were you I'd
Come to the ball
Wear red and white
I'll wear green and black
And our dance will be envied by allI look at it mildly confused. It's not signed, and there's no indication of who it's from. The kids close enough to me to read it are spreading murmurs throughout the crowd.
"We should probably go."
"Agreed. Ron?"
"Okay okay, but what do you think-"
"We'll discuss it later." I say pointedly and glance at the door. We have a free period soon and can talk then, but I'm not comfortable with everyone staring at me. Again.Ron's POV:
"Okay but what does it mean?" I ask for the hundred millionth time. "You can keep repeating the words but I still won't understand what the bloody hell they're saying."
"It's an invitation Ron. It's asking Harry to come to the dance with some random person he doesn't know."
"See? That told me what it was! Why was that so hard?"
"I'VE SAID IT THREE TIMES!"
" YOU DON'T NEED TO TELL AT ME! "
"GUYS THIS ISN'T HELPING!"
We're in the Gryffindor commons discussing the note Harry got.
"Who do you guys think it's from?"
I think it's probably from a rich girl. Someone in Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff kids don't really do much and Slytherin hates us, there's also no way a Gryffindor girl sent it because Hermione would have seen her write it.
"I don't know. It could have been a lot of people."
"It was probably a rich Ravenclaw girl. Who else speaks riddles like that?"
"That's- not bad logic Ron."
I puff up proudly. "Well I mean, it was simple-"
"We could ask Luna if she saw anyone too."
"Thanks. Now that we're back on topic, the 'wear this I'll wear that' part. What red goes with green?"
"Wait, you're not really planning on doing it, right? We don't even know who sent it!"
"I mean, kinda.... I want to do it."
"Ron don't decide for him. If all else fails he'll find out who it is at the ball."
"I WASN'T SAYING THAT!"
"OH MY GOD RONALD, YOU IMPLIED THAT YOU DIDN'T WANT HIM TO GO!"
"WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?!"
"Guys, please don't."
"I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU BEING A SELFISH PRICK!"
"HOW AM I BEING SELFISH?!"
"Guys!"
"JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T FIND A DATE DOESN'T MEAN HARRY SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GO! SOMETIMES HE WANTS TO DO THINGS. WITHOUT. YOU!"
I stand in a shocked silence and the boys dorm room door slams shut. I look around for Harry. He's gone. Hermione stares at me and I see the regret around her eyes.
"Ron, I didn't mean-"
I leave the commons as fast as I can. I never want to see Hermione again.:p I don't know what I'm doing but I have a rough outline. Any of y'all wanna guess who sent the note?
I'm not good at mysteries.
Yes it is one day before the dance because dramatic arse characters.
