Chapter 13

"Just get in the car and go."

Clint and James stood side by side, arms crossed as they tried to stare Reagan down.

"How about no."

"Reagan..." Clint pinched the bridge of his nose, "Tony will kill me if anything happens to you."

"This isn't your fight, Barton. I'm a grown woman, I should be able to decide for myself. I'll handle Tony, if or when it comes to that."

"In the car, now."

The low, rumbling voice made her eyes flash over towards the brown-haired soldier, her mouth already opening to fire back an argument. She didn't get far. Quickly, he had stepped forwards, his fingers clasping her tightly around her upper arm, pulling her towards the small beetle.

"James! What the f-"

"Shut up."

"Language!" Clint roared, making Steve groan in the background. Reagan was about to chuckle at the commotion, but ended up squeaking instead as she was showed inside the driver seat of the small beetle.

Grumbling indignantly she struggled to get out of the car, only to have one hand pressing into her stomach - pushing her back against the car-seat as James hunched down outside of the car door.

"Listen to me," he said quietly - the hold on her stomach disappearing as his hand moved to her thigh instead. "I don't doubt your ability to fight. Hell - I've seen you run a car straight into another person to fight him off, obviously you know how to handle yourself. But this fight - it will be something else, because you won't be fighting against strangers that are enemies. You will be fighting your friends. Your family. I won't let you do that."

"If you had bothered to listen," she said, leaning forwards slightly and cupping his worried, but stoic face in-between her palms. "-You would have realized that I never said anything about fighting. I just want to be here for whatever happens next. You need to get to that jet, fine. I'll come with you on the jet."

"No." He sounded resolute, and she furrowed her eyebrows, pulling away from him.

"Why?"

"We can talk about this later."

"James!" She exclaimed as he got to his feet, backing away from her slowly.

Giving him and Clint one final scorching look she grabbed the door and slammed it shut. Turning the key in the ignition she backed the car up, hearing someone shouting for her to stop, but she sped off, only glancing through the rear-view mirror once, to see James taking two steps in the direction she was going.

Reagan didn't stop until she was on the top of the parking garage they had been in. Getting out of the car just as she could hear the alarm setting off to evacuate everyone from the airport. Glancing to the right she noticed Sam's red-wing, it hovered the for a moment, and she could see the camera turning towards her.

Raising her hand she saluted it with her middle finger.

Bucky found himself reluctantly walking over to where Sam and Steve were standing, trying to look down at the monitor on Sam's arm.

"Did you find out where she went?"

Sam scoffed, but Steve turned around to look at him; "she's on the roof."

Suddenly Sam snorted out a laugh, and the two super soldiers glanced down at the small monitor only to see Reagan scowling at the camera as she raised her arm, flipping off the camera.
