AN: I know it's long sorry, I physically wrote it and didn't realize how long it was.

“What hurts the most is being so close. And watching you walk away. And I have so much to say” I sang as I walked into the National. I was bringing my friend, Lou, some dinner because she had a late shift. Also a band I was kind of into, R5, was playing here tonight.

“Hey Lily” Cody, one of the guys that worked there waved at me.

“Hey, have you seen Lou anywhere?” I asked.

“She was by the soundboards last time I saw her”

“Thanks” I gave him a small wave before walking into the main part of the venue. I swear if that boy got any cuter I’d have to lock us in a room and let him have his way with me. Oh who am I kidding? I’d let him do that now. Problem was he had a girlfriend and looked at me as more of a younger sister than anything. Why was life so unfair?

“Lou?” I walked around the small platform that had a bunch of soundboards on it. Nowhere to be seen. That girl really needed a bell, she was always hustling about. “Well I’m not starving” I pulled out my portion of the food and began eating. The band had started soundcheck. Why? There was no one up here to fix anything for them. One by one they each held up their index finger signaling that the sound needed to be louder in their in ear monitors. I may not work here but I knew all that too well.

“Um excuse me?” Ross, the lead singer, spoke into his mic. “Nothing is loud enough for us to hear” Wonder who he’s talking to. There’s no one here but me. Oh shit!

“Can you please fix it?” Riker, the bassist, asked. I scrambled to the mic.

“I’m sorry I don’t work here” I said with my mouthful. Real charmer aren’t ya Lily?

“Oh can you get someone who does?” Ross asked.

“I’m not sure, they’re usually busy before a show. Don’t you guys have a sound guy?” I asked.

“He’s not feeling too well. We were told that someone here would help out” Rydell, the keyboardist, said.

“I really am sorry” I said, “I mean I can try, I’ve seen it often enough” They all had hesitant looks on their faces.

“Just try not to make us go deaf” Ross joked. I let out a small laugh before pushing up the sliders that went to each monitor.

“That’s great thanks” Rydell said. I gave them a thumbs up before they left the stage. The doors were about to open and they had to finish getting ready. Lou was still nowhere to be seen, so that left me in charge of sound. I could do this, I’ve seen her do it thousands of times. I just really hoped I didn’t mess anything up. About fifteen minutes passed and the doors still weren’t open. There wouldn’t be no harm in listening to some music for awhile, would there?

“Unbreakable like nothing could go wrong. Now I can't breathe No, I can't sleep I'm barely hanging on Here I am, once again. I'm torn into pieces. Can't deny it, can't pretend. Just thought you were the one. Broken up, deep inside. But you won't get to see the tears I cry. Behind these hazel eyes” I was so used to singing at the top of my lungs here, I hadn’t realized it was into the mic. So basically everyone had heard me singing, including R5. Ross ran out from backstage, with a rather confused look on his face. I blushed and sank down on the stool I was sitting on.

“Please don’t come over here. Please” I muttered.

“Was that you singing?” He had climbed up on the platform and was holding onto the railing.
