I woke up several hours later in a large bed. I shot up, surprised to actually be in a bed. I looked around the room and saw that it was just a normal bedroom, except bigger and more different. There was a skull on the dresser with a candle in the head and a red gem in the right eye, and a box with a symbol on it next to the skull. I looked over to the bedside table and there was a glass of water, a lamp, and a strange orb. There were no windows, so I assumed I was near the the center of the house. The door was on the wall in front of me to the far left.
"Oh, you're awake," said a female echoey voice, which I assumed to be Mildred. "Master Dreamscape I brought you some food."
I sat up and looked her at the foot of my bed. "Thank you Mildred, and please don't call me master," I said in a caring voice. "I'm a friend not a master."
Mildread tilted her head in confusion. "Don't call you master?" she asked confused. "Master Death told me to call you master."
"Please don't call me it," I said again. "I am no one's master."
"Ok friend Dreamscape," she said with a giggle. "I won't call you master." She came to my side and placed the food next to me. "Call for me if you need anything," she said as she left. I began to eat when some one else knocked on the door.
"Come in," I called and the door opened revealing Zack in a normal white button up shirt and jeans. "Oh, Zack."
"Hey Dreamscape," he said as he walked to the side of my bed. "I trust you are enjoying your time here."
"Well it's better than my apartment," I said finishing my food and putting the plate down. "I even get to sleep on a bed."
"I heard you talking with Mildread and she was blushing when she left," he said with a sigh. "Never seen her that flustered, and she's been here for quite a while."
I could feel myself blushing. "W-what?" I stuttered, confused on how I made a ghost blush. "Flustered?"
"Yeah," he said with a little sigh, and got up. "Well, you'd better get dressed." He left after saying this. I just now realized I was in pajamas.
I got out of bed and got dressed; all of my clothes were in the dresser. I decided to open the box with the symbol and inside was a deck of cards. I drew a card and there was a little creature on it, it had a vulture like skull on its head. It looked like a plague doctor's mask on the little guy. He was about 0'6 and like a little plushy, however he was holding a potion. I decided to put the card back and went outside. I walked down the stairs and saw Death waiting for me.
"Awake I see," said Death as I walked down the stairs. "Well, you've heard the prophecy young Dreamscape. Now the question is, do you accept it?"
I looked at him determined to find my destiny. "Yes, Death, I am," I said, more confident than ever before.
"Good. Now first, go back to your room and get the box off your dresser, along with the orb next to your bed, and meet me downstairs in front of the locked door to the right of the main door," he instructed as he walked beneath the stairs to the door to the right.
I ran back to my room, grabbed the box and the orb and returned to death. "I got them, Death." I held them out and he nodded, turning and unlocking the door to what appears to be the basement. He started walking down so I followed until we got the the bottom where there was a training room of sorts, and Hellfire was punching a punching bag over and over and over until it broke. It sparked and regenerated so it appeared that things down here where infinite.
"Alright. So you will have to train to control your powers," he said turning to me and turning into his true form. "So, first order of business is to open the box and draw a card."
I did as I was told and drew the creature that I drew before. I saw his skull, his leaf tail and his pudgy little body.
"Good," said Death. "Now you need to summon it into the world."
I stepped back in shock. "Summon the creature? How? Isn't it just a card?" I asked, confused.
"Now it is, but if you channel all your energy into the card, it will become real," said Death. "Now, just focus."
I did as I was told, and started to focus on the card in my hand. All of a sudden, darkness sprouted from my fingertips and went into the card. The darkness then surrounded the card and started to leak into the ground and formed the creature in the card. It turned to look at me, and it was oddly adorable.
"See? I knew you had it in you," Death said, "Now you have summoned a Dream creature. This is the creature of weird dreams. You have to give him name." The creature stared at me with big eyes, and I instantly knew a name for him.
"Scrappy," I stated and the creature jumped in excitement and scrambled up to my shoulder, sitting on it. I scratched under his chin and he cooed. "He's cute."
"He's yours now, and you have complete control over him," Death explained . "Now the orb. The orb is very powerful relic that only the dream demon can control. Now hold the orb up."
I did as he asked and Scrappy clung to me. He started nuzzling me and I felt overwehlming happiness. As I did the orb unlocked and a strange mist came out and entered through through my eye socket.
"Wow, you did that quickly," said Death, surprised. "I thought you would take much longer."
"I just felt happy and it opened," I said, surprised myself. "What did it do to me?"
"It unlocked your true power," said Death. "It probably unlocked with all that happiness."
"So little Scrappy is the reason this is open," I said scratching Scrappy's head. "So what is it meant to do?"
"You just need practice," Death reassured me. "We will start immediately." He raised his scythe and swung at me. I managed to somehow jump over it and fall back and landed as he charged me again. I raised my arms and felt something strange in my eye socket. I moved my hands in a motion away from me and a wave of energy came out and he was blasted back at the wall.
"PERFECT!" exclaimed Death laughing. "You beat me as if you've been using magic for a millennium. I am very impressed." Scrappy nuzzled me, as if to say he was proud of me.
"How did I do that?" I asked, confused. Mostly on how Scrappy stayed on my shoulder during all that. "My eye socket feels weird; what happened?"
"Your eye socket is glowing," said Death with a look of surprise.
All of a sudden my eye socket began to hurt, and a ring of black fire burst around me, knocking Death down again and causing Scrappy to jump off and get to safety. I fell to my knees and the glow disappeared. I felt relieved and Scrappy came back and jumped on my shoulder again.
"Wow," said Death with a big smile. "That was stronger than expected. YOU are far stronger than expected!" I smiled a bit at him saying this. Scrappy gave me a proud look, as if he was proud to be mine.
"That's all the training for today," said Death transforming into human form. "Do with the deck as you please. Summon more or not, I don't care." Death went back up the stairs. I followed and returned to my room with scrappy on my shoulder. He cooed as he nuzzled into my neck, I scratched his head and went over to the bed.
I looked at the box for a good five minutes, wondering what kind of creatures could come out of the box. Obviously there had to be good dreams and nightmares, but I couldn't help but wonder if there was more. Scrappy jumped from my shoulder and landed on my hand and nudged the box, I think he wanted me to open it. I put my shaky hand on the box and opened it. I saw the deck of cards, Scrappy took one out of the box and handed me the card. I took the card from his hands and the card shined a bright light into my eye. I almost dropped it as I shut my eye in pain, when I looked back at it I saw not one, but two creatures! Two ghosts that looked like sheet ghosts but where wearing flower crowns. Scrappy made a noise that sounded a bit like cheering, he was happy to see them. I looked at them again and focused, the darkness flowed from my fingertips. It surrounded the card and the two ghosts emerged from the card they were about 5'6 (Not counting the half a foot they were hovering off the ground.) and they glowed white.
"What are you?" I asked seeing they were not hostile. They moved over to me and you dropped a heart locket in my hand. I looked at it and there was writing in it.
"Dream Ghosts, Ghosts of Good Dreams." I read aloud and they nodded. "Well I need to name you both don't I? How about...Pika and Boo?" They did a backflip motion, they appeared to like it. Scrappy came over and pushed the lockets cover causing it to open, Pika and Boo instantly dove into the locket and the locket shut. 'Pika & Boo' appeared on the locket.
"So I can store them in the locket?" I asked Scrappy as he nodded in response. I looked long and hard at the locket and realized that this was a great idea.
"Friend Dreamscape?" I heard Mildread say from the door. "May I come in?"
"Yeah of course," I said as Scrappy jumped back on my right shoulder and I put the locket around my neck. "You don't need to ask alright?"She entered and and I patted a spot on the bed left of me signaling her to sit down. She blushed a bit before coming over and sitting.
"Sooo how was training?" she asked a little awkwardly. She didn't look at me at all but I think she was blushing.
"It went great," I said letting Scrappy come off my shoulder and showing her. "I was able to summon this little guy."
Her eye widened as she picked him up. "He's so cuutte!" she examined as Scrappy nuzzled into her hand. "What's his name?"
"Scrappy," I said with a smile, I don't think shes ever been so happy so happy. "The creature of weird dreams."
"Weird dreams?" she asked with a very confused look on her face.
"Yeah; the potions he has can be mixed into weird dreams," I explained. "He mixes them completely randomly however. Even he doesn't know what will happen." She chuckled a bit after hearing this. I'm not sure what she found funny.
"Well he's very cute for a creature of weird dreams," she said happily. She looked up and saw the locket around my neck. "What's that?"
I looked down not even remembering it was there. "Oh! This holds two more dream creatures," I said, opening it as Pika & Boo flew out and hovered in front of us. "This is Pika and Boo ghosts of good dreams." Mildread eyes widened as she saw the two ghosts she instantly jumped forward and hugged them both. Pika and Boo where obviously surprised and panicked for a moment before relaxing and placing their heads on each of her shoulders.
"More ghosts," she said with excitement in her voice. She turned to look at me. "This is all so wonderful. But how do you summon them?"
"From this," I said pulling out the card box. "This has a bunch of creatures in it, and with my power I can summon them."
"Really! That's so cool!" She exclaimed. She actually jumped into me and hugged me I was surprised and slowly put my hands around her and hugged back. I blushed so much I could feel my face burning up. Her face was glowing with blush and I could tell she was as embarrassed as I was. Her hug was warm and comfortable I felt like could stay this way forever. I wish I could stay like this forever, but she pulled away and with her face completely red, she floated out of the room without another word.
"I think I'm in love," I said to Pika, Boo, and Scrappy. "She's very nice and beautiful, and I think she feels the same way I do."
Pika and Boo nodded in agreement and Scrappy nuzzled into my leg. "Thank you guys, you where a big help." I said as Pika and Boo went back into there locket and Scrappy layed down on my pillow and went to sleep.
I was in love and I couldn't stop myself from getting attached. I layed down on the pillow next to Scrappy and fell asleep. I entered the void and the stars started to form a pattern, it was mildred and I...dancing.
