"Bzzzzz...Bzzzzz...Bzzzzz" I hit my alarm and rolled over to get the piercing sunlight out of my eyes "Ruby! Wake up! Breakfast will be ready in 10 minutes, we're eating waffles!" my dad called from downstairs, wait. Waffles? he never cooked waffles unless it was a special occasion. I took my head out of my pillow and saw a red backpack next to my door, my red backpack. Then it hit me, quite literally.
"Ow! Yang!" I complained to my sister who had just thrown a pillow at my face "Rubes Wake up! It's your first day of high school!" I smiled up at her, Yang was my cousin but I called her my sister since we grew up together, How so? Well, our parents were best friends since high school her father Taiyang Xiao Long and mother Raven Branwen got divorced when she was little and my father is Qrow Branwen Raven's brother, my mother, Summer Rose died when I was two. After that my dad and uncle Tai decided to live together and help each other raise their daughters.
"Okay, Okay I'm getting up-" I said "-but Yang," she turned around "Yes Rubes?" I scrunched up my nose "Don't call me that" she whined "Hey! Oscar calls you that!" Oscar is my best friend and my only alongside Weiss Schnee. We met in grade school and have been inseparable since then. I was going to tell Yang that wasn't an excuse but my dad yelled again "Girls! Breakfast's ready!" my eyes widened "Oh crap!" I said getting my stuff and changing quickly.
When I was finally ready Yang had already gone downstairs I grabbed my backpack and took a quick look at the mirror my short black hair was decently combed and my outfit wasn't half bad some black combat boots, Jeans and my favorite red t-shirt with a rose in the center.
"Glad you could make it kiddo 5 more minutes and Yang would've eaten it all" said my dad as he ruffled my hair "Daaaaad" I whined "I just brushed it" he just laughed "Sorry, now eat your breakfast I made it extra special and didn't burn it" I laughed and started eating. Just then, my uncle, Tai entered the room "Hey girls! Ready for another fun school year!?" We both groaned which probably answered his question "Oh c' mon! Yang is your Junior year and Ruby it's your freshman year! Your first year of high school! Oh, I have to get my camera!"
Yang and I looked at each other with the same expression on our faces 'Run' my dad must've noticed 'cause he laughed "Don't worry I knew this was going to happen I hid his camera this morning" Yang and I sighed of relief "Hey who left the closet door open!?" Asked my uncle from the other room I saw all the mischief deflate from my dad's face "Uh you know what nevermind that's where I hid it" he said. Yang and I were back on panic mode we gulped down the last bit of our breakfast just as I heard a car honking outside.
"That's Weiss and Oscar!" I snatched my backpack said a quick goodbye to my dad and Yang and headed out the door. I should've probably told my uncle goodbye too but I couldn't risk him asking for a picture, last year he made Yang and I dress in little matching skirts just for the picture then he showed it to everyone!
"C' mon Rubes! Weiss's getting impatient!" Yelled Oscar from the backseat of Weiss's car, well it wasn't actually Weiss's car. Not yet at least, she was too young to drive it so her butler Klein did, he came to pick me and Oscar up every morning then he'd drive us to school but sometimes we took the bus, Yang drove herself in her own car.
"Hi, Ruby" greeted Oscar "Hey Oscar, Weiss," I said she just glared at me "You're late," she said then her face softened "But it's nice to see you" I chuckled "Nice to see you too Ice queen," I said "Ah! Miss Rose, it's wonderful to see you again!" Said Klein cheerfully "Shall we get going?" He asked, "Let's go!" I said and with that, we drove off to our new school, Signal High School.
When we got there the first thing that caught my eye was nothing, literally. There was nobody there "Uh correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a school suppose to have, oh I don't know, students?" Asked Oscar "No, no they'll be here we're just somewhat early," said Weiss "What! You told us we were going to be late!" I exclaimed, "Did I?" She asked not-so-innocently me and Oscar groaned.
"Look I just wanted to get here a few minutes early so we could walk around and maybe talk to some teachers before school starts," said Weiss. Yep. That's Weiss for you always doing extra credit and wanting to be prepared "Anyways Klein thanks for the ride" said Weiss while getting out of the car "A pleasure as always!" answered Klein. Oscar and I thanked him and got off. We were already here might as well make the most out of it.
As soon as we entered the building Weiss spotted a teacher and went to offer her assistance me and Oscar on the other hand went to look for our lockers we already had our combinations as well as our schedules we just talked until the halls started to fill "We better look for Weiss so we can all head to our classes" I suggested "Right I'll search by the directory and second floor you take the ground floor and campus" he said.
I had looked for Weiss everywhere on the ground floor I was heading to the campus when I spotted her at the entrance carrying something that looked like a chemistry experiment "Weiss!" I called and started running towards her but she didn't look like she heard me I was a few sprints away when I heard my name getting called "Ruby!" I turned my head without thinking and 'BAMM!' I crashed into Weiss the experiment went flying when it hit the ground next to us, the components must've been toxic because they burned a hole on the ground and several on Weiss's skirt.
"Oh my! Weiss are you okay?" I asked "Yeah just watch where you're going you're lucky that professor Kane asked me to throw this away," she said "Who?" I questioned "Our chemistry teacher" she answered 'Makes sense' I thought to look at the now smoking little crater "Ruby, Weiss you okay!?" Asked Oscar helping us up he must've been the one I heard screaming my name "Ugh. Great job Crater Face" Weiss said "Crater Face?" I questioned. Weiss then smirked and pointed to the little hole then at me "Oh no~" I groaned.
Oscar laughed "Looks like someone just earned their nickname" he teased "WHAT IS GOING ON!" we all flinched and turned around standing behind us was a very strict looking lady "Uh sorry principal Wilson we had a little accident-" Weiss was cut off by a screech, looks like Ms.Wilson just noticed my work of art "What is that!" She screamed "Detention! To the three of you!" she demanded "But!-" we started to protest "No excuses! 2:00 pm my office sharp, don't get there late" she said coldly and left "Great! Just fantastic! Detention! On my first day!" cried out Weiss.
"It could be worse," Said Oscar as he finished the smoking crater caught fire "Nevermind" he murmured. We used my water bottle to put it out and headed to class "Okay now it can't get any worse" I said, Boy was I wrong.
