Futaba's Heart, Part 2

[Y/n] and Makoto were at the train station together the following day to head to the assembly.

Makoto: Do you have any ideas on what we're gonna do about Futaba?

[Y/n]: About that... I don't know if I really wanna be a Phantom Thief anymore.

Makoto: What?!

[Y/n]: It's about the psychotic breakdowns. Someone else in the Metaverse are causing those, and with our adventures in Mementos... What if we're causing them as well, and we just don't know it? (pause) It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, and I... I just don't know what I'm gonna do. I need time to think.

Makoto: Okay... No matter what decision you make, it won't affect our relationship, I promise.

[Y/n]: Thanks for understanding, Mako.

As the two sit down for the assembly with the other Phantom Thieves, aside from Yusuke, principal Kobayakawa steps up onto the stage.

Kobayakawa: Hello, students! We thank you for coming to our last-minute assembly. We realize that all the action between Medjed and the Phantom Thieves must have you all very excited, but we'd like to remind you to...

His words peter out for [Y/n] as he feels a vibration in his pocket. He takes out his phone to see Nejire is calling him.

[Y/n]: (quietly) What's up?

Nejire: It's Tamaki! We were taking a taxi to school this morning, but the driver just suddenly swerved into the other lane! I'm fine, but Tamaki... (snivel) He's not doing so good...

[Y/n]: What?! I'll be right there!

Everyone looks to [Y/n] as he stands up and runs out the door.

Makoto: [Y/n], wait! Where are you going?!

She gets up and runs after him. All the students begin to look at each other in confusion.

After a few minutes, [Y/n] finally arrives at the scene of the crash. Police surrounded his two friends, but [Y/n] was tall enough that he could see over their heads. He saw Nejire, crying, kneeling by Tamaki, who was bleeding from the head. Paramedics, who had first taken the driver into an ambulance, approach them as [Y/n] tries to fight through the police, but they hold him back as best they can.

[Y/n]: Let me through, those are my friends!

Officer: Sir, I need you to calm down! You hear me, young man?! Please, cool off and just think a little!

[Y/n] feels a hand on his back as the officer looks behind him.

Makoto: I'll take it from here, officer.

He nods as Makoto drags [Y/n] away from the scene.

Makoto: Okay. Explain to me what happened.

[Y/n]: It was... A psychotic breakdown. The driver swerved into oncoming traffic.

He looks up in a panic when he hears the ambulances' sirens as they both drive away. He gets up and begins running again.

Makoto: (running after him) Where're you going?!

[Y/n]: To the hospital!

[Y/n] is now sitting outside Tamaki's hospital room with Makoto next to him and Nejire across from them. The doctor had told them that a few large pieces of metal had found their way into his body, and now they were doing surgery on him.
