My best friend stepped inside the warm apartment in a hurry. It was obvious we were going to be late, and she knew that. "Shit! I'm sorry we're probably gonna be late." I don't say that we will be. "Let me change really quickly." Christina said while running to her room and closing the door.
"It's fine, just hurry up. I'm already nervous." I replied, leaning my arm on the wall next to the front door. I inspected our little home. We had a smart TV hanging on the wall adjacent to the white oak themed kitchen doorway. Across from it was a dark brown L-shaped couch, fitted with pale blue pillows. Above the couch was a clean tall glass window, where you could see quite a view. Riddled all over the place were flowers, green plants, and succulents. I like to keep this place alive a little when Christina left for trips. The walls had paintings strategically placed on our white and cream walls.
"Haven't you met him before? What's all this nervousness about?" She says behind the door.
"It's my first concert. Regardless if I met them or not, I'm still nervous! I don't like being around too much people." My voice cracked a bit. I could hear my heart beat faster every time I thought about Daniel on stage.
"Fine, fine," Christina opens the door as she puts on a light black sweater. She was wearing a black crop top, black jeans and black heeled boots. She worse a neutral toned lipstick and the insides of her eyes glowed. "Alright, are you ready?"
"Yeah." I said, noticing her grey metallic suitcase sitting beside the door. I point to it next to her, "Are you leaving?"
She redirected her eyes at the suitcase, "I already told you I was leaving tonight. I reminded you, like, yesterday." I look at her, dumbfounded. I suddenly recall the time where she said she was going to Los Angeles for some business trip I don't remember. Remember when I said I was messy? This is what I mean.
"Oh yeah. You did say that." I laugh. This was a normal thing. She'd leave for a few days, return for a while and then head out again. I didn't mind. It meant I get to spend some time for myself and my job. Although I do brood about missing Christina's presence in our home. We call a lot to make up for it, even with the wacky time zones.
She snorted, "Okay let's go. We've got you a date to go to."
I roll my eyes, "It's not a date, you buffoon."
"That's what you'd like to think. Come on now, the concert isn't going to watch itself." Christina smiled as she opened the door.
It was a busy Saturday. People were laughing, cars were blaring their horns, and the stores pile with people. The usual New York. We chatted as we took multiple transportation routes to the stadium.
Once we got there, lots of people wait in line to buy last minute tickets. I started for the line before Christina called out to me. "No, this way. Come on!" Confused, I follow her to the back, where a giant bus was parked. I assume this was their tour bus. There was a single metal door, where security was posted. Before heading for the door, Christina gave me a lanyard with a backstage pass on. She gestured me to put it on and show it to security.
I look at her with concern, quivering this piece of plastic in my hands. "He did this, didn't he?" She nodded excitedly. Security let us in after showing our pass. I thought I told Daniel to not do that shit.
"Do you always do this?" I asked.
"No, only sometimes. Daniel thought it'd be a good occasion tonight." She gave me a grin. "Do you want to meet them now or afterwards?"
I thought about the question she asked. I couldn't seem to make out a decision. I mused for another moment. I could go now and see him, or I could make him sweat.
"Afterwards." I answered.
She nodded and lead me to the front of the stadium. The stage was only a few good feet away from us. Behind us were hundreds or even thousands of people idling, waiting for the show to start. My leg started bouncing a little when I took my seat.
When the crew came onto the stage one by one, the crowd started getting louder and louder. With each lyric being sung by the boys, it was echoed back.
Daniel came out in a white shirt with black ripped jeans. He looked like his usual self. Hearing him sing only made him prettier. He looked around frantically at the crowd, keeping up smoothly and beautifully to the song. I think he was searching for me. Or at least I like to think so. In an attempt to relax Daniel, I threw my hands up in a heart shape to hopefully get his attention.
He saw me, and smiled from ear to ear. His face had a glow every time he saw me. He could now focus on the show like he was supposed to be doing anyway.
After screaming the lyrics with Christina for a good amount of time, the show ended with a blast. I stood up so quick. Before I could make my first step, Christina held my arm down. "Whoa! Easy there, they still have to do meet and greet, it'll take some time."
I turn around to look at her. "Can't we just meet with the fans?
"Girl, about ninety-eight percent of everyone out there knows I exist. If I were to go out there, I'd miss my flight." She makes gestures as she talks, "You could go meet with the fans, but I can't."
This was a dilemma. Either wait a while longer to face Daniel once again or meet them with the fans. The problem with that is, I would only have a select amount of time I get to see them. Why would I do that when we have backstage passes?
I furrowed my eyebrows, "How long will meet and greet take?"
"A long fucking time."
