prologue ~ only the beginning

The warm sun peeked its rays between the spaces of the blinds. The spaces in between welcomed the light. My bed was still against the wall, unmade and messy. The room was relatively clean and comfortable, just the aesthetics I liked. White walls with paintings hanging on them. Pretty plants living on the surfaces of wardrobes and tables.
I live in an apartment in Hudson Yards, New York and living with my best friend. This time of year was perfect for traveling around New York. A perfect time to meet my best friend's boyfriend. Sarcasm ensues.
I am a stay at home, read some cheesy romance novels, blast music through my headphones, wrap myself in a blanket and eat chocolate ice cream in bed kind of person. I don't think I'm a "not like other girls" kind of girl. Because let's be honest, most people love being at home. Meeting people can be awkward for me. I love being around people I'm comfortable with, who knows who I am and doesn't judge me for it. Which is why Christina Marie Harris is my best friend.
"Christina!" I shout from my room, "when do we leave again?" I guess I'm always a mess, huh?
"At around 1! It's the time he's free with the gang and a good time for lunch." yelled back Christina. She's a lot more organized than me.
"Okay!" I said. I checked the time: 10 AM. Jump in the shower, put on the fit, quickly fix my hair, leave.
Christina Marie Harris was a lean brunette. Pale skin with honey eyes. She's fucking gorgeous. Her job involves social media. She's a powerful influencer, always hyping up everyone she meets. She created two brands to inspire young chickees to rise up. She's one of the strongest woman I know.
We grew up in Long Island together. We were neighbors. Went to the same school, had almost the same friends, and stayed together. By the time we graduated, Christina went for college. She was still rising in the influencer field, and made it her priority for the most part.
I, on the other hand, couldn't afford to go to college. My parents aren't the best with money. They blew most of their income all on themselves and leaving the rest for me, which were not much. I usually went to Christina's house to avoid the brink-of-collapse family I had at home. Her family were always welcoming.
Christina has always talked about how she's got a long distance relationship with her boyfriend because of how much they both travel. He's a singer, she's a businesswoman. They've been dating for a long while now. I have never met Christina's boyfriend in person, only when they FaceTime and I happen to be in the room. I only know so much of him, like that's he's in a band. The band will be performing at the theatre in New York really soon, which Christina thought it was a perfect time for her to catch up with them. I'd say I would be a third wheel, but there will be four other guys.
It had already hit 12 PM. We hurriedly left the apartment to catch up with city traffic. As the meeting place was close enough, we began walking into the direction of our destination. The cafe was fairly empty, only containing a few customers and a group of well dressed guys sitting down in a ringed booth. It was a pretty place, having a nature aesthetic to the atmosphere.
Upon peering into the window, Christina ran inside and hugged a blonde man with white highlights. He had bold blue eyes. They rocked back and forth, sharing "I missed you's" and "I love you's". After the reunion, the man extended his hand towards me.
"Hey!" he said with excitement in his voice. "You must be Y/n! Great to finally see you in person! I'm Corbyn."
"Ah yes, the legend. Hello Corbyn!" I said while shaking his hand, "It's nice to finally meet you too. "Christina has been talking about you a lot more lately.
He chuckled, "All good things, I hope." I smile at the encounter. "These are my friends," he gestured to the others. I scan the other four and holy shit, they're hot. The tallest one with a bit of beard stubble reached his hand out as well.
"Hi, I'm Jonah. Good to meet you!" I took his hand and smiled at him, while saying likewise. Damn, his hand is soft. The process repeated up until the last one introduced himself:
Daniel Seavey.
He stood there with his crystal blues and well put blonde-brown hair. High cheekbones and defined jawline. Holy shit, this guy is HOT with a capital H.
I clear my throat before I say something stupid. "H-hello." I sputtered. Calm down. I shouldn't be shaking this much. Daniel didn't speak for what felt like a while, but it was truly a few seconds. Uncomfortable silence. We stared each other down like we've been hit with deja vu. It's like we've known each other lifetimes ago. Now it was Daniel's turn to clear his throat and punch his chest.
"Hey." He said. He introduced himself in a more suave way. Maybe the others did as well but Daniel's way was the one that caught my e/c eyes.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Y/n." said Daniel and smiled. I can't seem to maintain eye contact with him. The way he pronounces my name makes my organs melt.
"Say it again." I whispered.
"What?"
"Nothing. Sorry. Spaced out." I said, shaking my head. I sigh, thinking that this may be some wild ride that I'm not ready to hop in yet. It's only the beginning.
