Gordon's POV
I try to grab her arm before she leaps out of the car, but I can't grab onto her quick enough. My head still spins and my reflexes are slow because of it. I hear a thud and a crunch as she lands on the hard pavement. Jaxon's eyes flash over to me and he slams on the brakes. Everyone is thrown forward and Jaxon puts the car in park.
He leaps over the side of the car, not even bothering to open the door, and runs back toward River. The boys jump out of the car as well while I just stay frozen in my seat. Why did she do that? I had just been playing. I was going to stop after a moment, but then she flipped out and jumped out of the car. She had some serious explaining to do but not in front of the other guys. Just so I don't look too guilty, I get out of the car.
Jaxon is helping River up and asking her again and again if she's alright. She shoves him away gently while saying, "I'm fine. I'm alright." She sees me walking over there and I see a small amount of fear in her eyes. But with the question in mine, she pauses on telling them what I did. She bites her lower lip when Jaxon asks her what happen. "Uh, the seat belt came loose and when I fell back I must've accidentally hooked the car door with my foot. It was unintentional, I swear."
Her lies are pressing hard on her, but Jaxon seems to believe her. He wraps his arm around her, taking a deep breath, and then told the freshman, Sebastian, I think is his name, to get in the trunk of the car. He had many arguments against it, but in the end, Riley, B.B. and Kam just wound up shoving him in there. It is still only a fifteen minute drive to Dina's, but when we get there, Sebastian is sick as hell.
He pushes pass all of us and runs straight into the bathroom. I grin at Kam and Riley, who are just busting up laughing. Jaxon is smiling too, but he still has his arm wrapped around River's waist. I frown, thinking of Destiny. She said that she would meet us here, but I didn't see her car out front. And I would be able to recognize her car because it would be the one car that isn't a football coach's or football player's car.
I do recognize Brittany's car and I sigh. I really don't want to deal with her right now, especially after what happened with River. Jaxon and River walk in front of me while I stay back. Kam, B.B., and Riley begin to walk in ahead of me while my feet remain stuck to the ground. Riley smiles back at me, but once he sees my solemn face, he tells the other guys to go on ahead and stays back.
He heads over to me. "You alright, bro?"
I shake my head. My head still hurts, my gaze is very unfocused, and I probably shouldn't even be walking around right now. "Brittany's here."
"Really?!" Riley whips his head around and spots her car almost immediately. He swears under his breath and sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm sorry dude. Look, if Jax'll let me borrow the car, I could probably give you a ride home..."
"No. No, I'll be fine, as long as she stays away from me." I know I'm overreacting a little bit, but ever since we broke up, I can't stand to see her lying, bitchy face anymore. Riley smiles carefully at me and we walk inside. He makes sure to stand really close to me because I'm pretty sure he knows I'm still not up to par.
Dina's Diner looks like an old fashioned diner. The floor is checkered black and white and there's a bar where some patrons could sit. The booths line by the windows and sounds of banging pots and clinking cups come from back in the kitchen. The low murmur of voices assault the air as we carefully head toward the door.
As soon as we step in through the door, the diner erupts in cheers and people rush me, patting me on the back. I cringe at the loud compliments in my ear and my head hurts. Finally, after the final person congratulates me, I go and sit down in one of the corner booths, resting my head in my hands. I feel extremely nauseated.
