The next morning I woke up with a massive headache. The sunlight bursting through the cracks of the blinds from the window wasn’t helping at all. There was a loud ringing in my ears even though no sound was heard. My stomach was churning and I had a horrid taste in my mouth. Good morning, hangover.
I yanked the blanket over my head, willing myself to go back to sleep and to wake up feeling refreshed. But I think that’s too much to ask for after what happened last night. What did happen last night? I remember seeing Riley kiss Adam which caused anger to boil in my blood. But then I remembered tears streaming down her face when I drove away from the hospital and ended up at a bar. I took a few shots, probably said some ridiculous things to Violet and now, here I was. Everything else was a blur. Was I even at my flat?
I peeked out of the blanket and saw purple hair spread out across the pillow next to me. That could only belong to one person: Violet. I got a closer look at her and saw her chest rising and falling soundlessly. She looked almost peaceful wearing my Ramones t-shirt. Riley always stole it from me. Crap, Riley. What was I going to tell her? “Hey babe, remember that waitress that hit on me when we went to Nandos? Yeah, I slept with her because I was drunk because I was too pissed to talk to you.” Yeah, that won’t work.
I was in trouble.
I through the blanket back and sat upright, trying my best to ignore the pounding in my head. I leaned over and shook Violet awake, not caring if I disturbed her slumber.
She moaned tiredly and opened her eyes. When she saw me, she smiled flirtatiously. “Morning, you.”
“Who do you think you are?” I snarled.
Her smile instantly vanished. “What are you talking about?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about. You kept giving me shot after shot last night, making sure I got drunk enough so you could insist on bringing me back to your place and have me give myself to you.” I spat.
She smiled evilly. “Genius, huh?”
“No. No, not at all. What you did was beyond wrong and it’s something I can never take back.”
“Oh, you know you don’t want to take it back.” She waved it away like it was silly, “now come here, I didn’t get a good morning kiss.”
She sat up and leaned close to me, getting ready to place a kiss on my lips when I placed my hand on her shoulder and pushed her back, jumping out of bed, making my head throb in protest.
“I don’t want to kiss you.”
“You did last night.”
My nostrils flared, “You know something Violet? You have no respect for yourself and if I had the slightest bit for myself, I wouldn’t even be here. I’m not proud of what I did last night and it’s not going to happen again,” I ranted as I picked my jeans up off the floor and stepped into them.
“Where are you going?” she demanded, climbing out of bed.
“Back to my girlfriend and hope to God that she takes me back.” I said more to myself than to her.
I walked over to the door and placed my hand on the knob, ready to bolt when Violet grabbed my bicep in her tiny hand and tried to yank me back.
“Stay.” She told me.
I looked her dead in the eyes. “Last night was horrible. You’re horrible. It was the worst night of my life.”
