Camellia's POV
"Look I don't know what it is that made you so upset! We all made it through the portal just fine!" I spat out, frustration shinning through me.
Everyone, except Wort. But between Larky and being back on solid ground he'll be fine.
Sun sighed. Both of our faces were flushed red from our argument.
"You don't get it." His voice was hoarse from his previous yelling.
"Then help me get it!" I countered.
I looked like a burnt tomato. Sun not being far from matching me.
"I try to! But every time I do you just start yelling at me!" He shouted as he threw his arms up into the air.
"Well it's not my fault that you suck at explaining!" I could feel my chest swarming with anger at how ridiculous he was being.
He turned away from me.
"See now we're back to square one, again." He cupped his face in his knees and hands.
"I wonder who's fault that is.." I grumbled under my breath.
He looked over at me, a glare plastered on his red flushed face.
"This is pointless!" I tightened my eyes shut and punched my fists into the sand.
He sighed again.
"Which isn't my doing.." he mumbled just loud enough so I could hear it.
That lowlife dirty little-
A close by scream interrupted my thoughts. Wort.
I rushed up and over to his side.
But not before turning to Sun and saying through a glare, "Why don't we just stop trying to make sense of it then."
The poor boy had fallen down to the ground and was completely still. You wouldn't have know he was alive if he hadn't been screaming at the top of his lungs.
"What's wrong with him?" Larky asked from on the ground next to me, fear laced beneath his words.
"That's probably just one of the rare side effects of going through the Floral Realms portal's." A soothingly ruff voice from above us spoke.
I looked up to see a man with jet black hair outlining his extremely pale skin and a white lab coat covering his light blue shirt and part of his dark pants.
"Who are you?" I heard deadbeat question from my other side.
Or if you wanted to refer to his sorry butt as Sun.
"Drake. I'm with the same institute as the lady that should've brought you four here. Fae?" Though his voice was low and scratchy it was somewhat calming.
"If by Fae you mean the mentally insane lady whose first impression to us was a pack of hobos with weapons? Then yeah. We know her." Larky spat out the man.
"Look I know she can come off pretty head strong, but that's just because of the realm she's from, and her species of shape shifters. It causes her to never have one set personality even when she's in one stable form." He explained, hoping that would somewhat calm him down. You could see sweat beads forming on his forehead
Larky nodded.
"Still don't rightfully like her doc."
Sometime in the middle of the short exchange Wort's screams had stoped.
"Is that a good thing?" Larky asked, inquiring the sudden silence.
Drake nodded.
"If I'm correct on which side effect he was enduring, silence should be a sign that he'll be ok."
Wort outstretched his one arm and plopped it down in the sand. His fall had caused him to be placed with his face on the ground. He stuck his head up and scanned the four of us surrounding him. Then he face planted it back in the sand. He moaned and slowly spat out ineligible words as he kept his face down.
"What was that?" I questioned, placing a hand on his back.
My face went pale.
I didn't feel a pulse. Not one single beat.
And even more concerning was that he felt about as hot as a burning hot stove. I quickly pulled my hand away before it got to warm.
"His back is as scolding hot as a freaking Volcano! Plus.. I don't feel a heartbeat.." I spat out at the group as I shook my hand back and forth, trying to cool it down.
"Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no..." Drake mumbled, standing back up.
"What!? Why no?" Larky shot up to look closer at the mans face.
"This isn't good..."
"What's not good?" I chimed in.
"It's not a side effect. It's his powers! They must've gotten triggered by a dire emotional state!" He rambled on.
"Well what does that mean?" Larky asked, his eyes darting back between Wort and The panic stricken man.
Drake bent down and began to hoist Wort's body up on his shoulders.
"It means that if we don't get him back to the institute so we can cool him down, calm him down, he'll die of heatstroke!" He began to run as fast as he could with a body on his back towards a slab stone path.
We didn't need to ask wether to follow him or not, we all just got up and began in his footsteps.
"Here I'll hold up his feet," Larky said, motioning to Wort's bottom half starting to slide off of Drake's back.
"You two," Drake was pointing at me. And Sun. "Run ahead to that white building up there and open the door for us!" He pointed further up the path.
As much as I hated to be singled out with Sun again, I started sprinting until the building was in site.
Apparently Sun had also taken to picking up the pace because he wasn't too far behind me when I stoped at the door and looked back. We pushed open the black framed door just as Drake and Larky had reached the door step with Wort in tow. We all filled in.
We had entered in some sort of hallway that had blue carpeting with white painted walls and ceilings, along with several more black trimmed doors lining the hall. Drake didn't say anything, or stop to take a breather. He just kept on going until he reached a door on the left side close to the end of the hall marked: Dr Gi Unlit in big printed out letters on a golden plaque.
He barged right in without bothering to knock. We followed.
"Ma'am we have a dire situation with the Great Masterwort candidate!" Drake blurted out to someone in front that I couldn't see from behind everybody.
"Oh dear! Quick sit him down on the couch, I'll go grab a washcloth from the bathroom!" I heard a women's voice command.
Drake did as the lady instructed and placed Wort's limp body on the plush grey sofa.
"It's gonna be alright.." I heard Larky whisper to him as he crouched down next to him on the floor.
He was squeezing his hand as he continued to talk to him, trying to calm him down.
Then the lady walked back in from a door off to the side of the room with a damp blue cloth grasped in her hands.
"Here," she handed it to Larky, being as he was the closest.
He folded it all nice and neatly, then laid it out across the boys tan forehead.
Everyone was silent for the time being, all of us waiting until we heard something besides the terrified breaths of each other.
Then Wort spoke.
I couldn't make it out at first. But when he repeated himself I couldn't help but feel a tad bit guilty.
"Where's Dahlia?"
I had completely forgotten about her.
