Pepper Stark; a now widowed woman raising her daughter on her own. It was tough most days. She still struggled daily with the fact that Tony wasn't coming back. That he was gone for good and that her and Morgan would never get to give him one more more hug, one more kiss on the cheek.

Morgan, now 6, has been growing more and more curious each day to learn about what had happened her father especially after listening to Peter's tales of their adventures together. He would stop at their small house as often as he could and they'd sit together by the small lake. Peter, telling Morgan of all the missions and adventures he and Iron Man had gone on, and Morgan snuggled up next to him, listening intently. The tales of her father's heroism astounded her and always brought the big toothy grins Peter loved to see on the girl.

One afternoon though, as they sat on a small picnic blanket, Peter noticed something different with Morgan. He glanced at Pepper(who had been able to join them after work) questioningly.
Pepper shrugged and turned to Morgan who was too busy playing with a ladybug to notice the wordless conversation being held above her head.

"Peter?" She asked, after the ladybug had drifted off in the breeze.

"Yes Munchkin?" Peter looked down at Morgan, with a cheesy smile.

"What happened to my daddy?"

Peter's  smile immediately fell and turned to a frown. "Come on kiddo we already talked about this. He had to go, he's up in the stars now."

He tried to avoid the conversation he knew  was coming but Morgan wouldn't back down. "Peter for real. What happened to him? Why did he have to go?"

The tears brimming in the little girl's eyes broke his heart and he gave in. He turned to Pepper for help but found her  face blank and eyes empty and he could tell Morgan had once again evoked the memories that fueled Pepper's pain and continuously shattered her heart.

I guess I'm on my own for this, he thought.

"Morgan...." Peter paused and reminded himself that Morgan deserved to know. No matter how much it tore him apart to think of losing the closest person to a father he'd ever known. "Your Dad was fighting...a very bad man. He was with the greatest superheroes in the whole wide world. We were all fighting this one bad guy who...had wanted to...um...steal the five stones I told you about before. He was going to use them to bad villain stuff and so me, your dad and other superheroes fought him. The bad guy, took the stones and put them on his big glove and when he...snapped it would let him do bad things. But your dad jumped and stole the stones right off the bad guy's glove and put it in his. And then he snapped. He got rid of the bad guy and all his friends. But..." Peter's eyes began to water and a lump formed in his throat. "But it hurt your daddy...snapping did. I went to tell him we won, the bad guy was gone, but your daddy was really hurt. And then your Mommy came over and we...sort of said goodbye. And then your daddy was taken into the stars so he could get better and get fixed."

Morgan too, now had tears streaming down her cheeks as she looked at the night sky, twinkling with little glimmers of hope. "When will he be fixed? Will he come back Peter?"

Peter wipes his tears away quickly. "I don't know Morgan."

"Peter? Did he want to go? Why did he want to leave me?"

Peter's heart broke the moment he heard her words. "Morgan, he did not want to leave you. In fact he did that so he knew you would be safe. He loved you more than words could tell. And trust me, he didn't want to go."

The little girl sniffled and swiped at her nose. "I didn't-want him... to go-either Peter. I...want-him to...come...back. I miss....him." She managed through hiccups.

"I know Munchkin. And so do I. But, we have to be strong for him. Ok?"

"O-o-ok Peter."

Peter took a deep breath and stood up, "Let's head inside pal. It's getting late."

Morgan stood up and grabbed his hand. "What about Mommy?" Pepper was staring at the lake, emotionless and completely still asides from the shaking in her shoulders and tears racing down her face.

Peter pointed towards the house. "I get Mommy and you get a head start ok? Let's see if you can beat Spider-Man."

Morgan took of running and Peter turned back around. He helped Pepper up but she barely noticed she was being moved. He wrapped the blanket on her shoulders and placed an arm around her.
He knew she was hurting because she never cried in front of Morgan. She had always tried to be strong for her and not show her fear or sadness. But tonight she had broken. Listening to Peter's words; they had pulled apart every piece of her that she had made to appear sturdy and strong. His words had crushed her illusions, reminding her of what she had lost in a fight to gain.

As she neared the door with Peter, Morgan who was already inside, ducked under them and ran back out. She ran as fast as her little legs could carry her to the edge of the small glistening lake and stopped.

Peter and Pepper turned around to watch her, curiously.

Morgan stood in her tippy toes and in a small voice, barely audible, she looked up at the stars and said, "I love you three thousand daddy."

I know it's bad, but I cried like 100 times while writing this. Like I would think back to the movie and burst into tears and full out cry. It's 11:44 and I have school tomorrow so that's bad. But I had to finish this and post it.
