I thought maybe,

my father would show up,

surely he heard about his death.

Surely he would care.

I found myself unable to

stop glancing at the doors, hoping

that he would finally come to save

us.

But my eyes never found

my father.

Instead, my eyes found you.

You were standing towards the back,

wearing a black suit, your silver hair,

parted,

your eyes never leaving mine,

and at that moment I knew.

You had known all along,

about my brother, and my family,

but you didn't care.

You did not see me as,

"the girl who lost her brother to suicide."

You saw me as who I am,

and even though I did not know who

that was anymore,

You did.

And you chose to

continue talking to me every day.

That day when I saw you,

standing in your black suit,

staring at me like you understood,

I forgot, all about

my father.
