Summer began, and I dreaded it.

The days were suddenly longer and so to was my misery.

School was over, and for that I was glad,

but now I had to stay with my mother,

cooped up for long hours in the

sweltering heat.

Your visits were frequent,

as you understood that I had to stay and

care for my mother,

who could no longer care for herself.

They say that a loss of a child

is a traumatic experience,

and that my mother would never be the same.

She didn't know that she had lost both her children.
