CHAPTER TWO

"He took me out to River's and we got smoothies. It was so romantic!" My friend exclaimed in happiness.

"You're a lucky girl, Jen." I said, as we continued walking down the road to her house. One thing I loved about this place; I could walk everywhere.

She let out a sigh of pleasure. "Yeah, I am. What's the scoop with you and guys?" She asked.

"Oh, I don't know. No one seems to have an interest." I said modestly.

"Honey, you've been here a week. Nobody knows you!" She tugged a smile at me. "When school starts, they'll be all over you!" She seemed excited.

"Thanks, but I doubt it."

"What about Jack?" She asked, nudging my shoulder and grinning widely.

"What about him?" I asked surprisingly louder than I'd expected.

"He seems to be interested." She raised her eyebrows.

My eyes widened automatically. "Oh please, he's just being nice." I said, trying not to smile.

Jen shrugged and we walked down the driveway to her home.

She lived in a small tan house far away from the edge of town. It was the cutest little building you would ever see. I stepped in for the first time, and gasped in amazement at how pleasant and nice it looked. The table was round with a yellow checkered cloth and mats set at all four places. Jen's living room had windows on each wall, letting in the summer sunlight. Her couch was a leathery copper color, with four pillows and a content little Pomeranian pup sprawled out along one cushion, sleeping. Jen lead me to her bedroom and I admired everything along the way. From chandeliers on the ceiling, to the carpets on the floors.

"This is it," my friend said. "I need new curtains." She sighed loudly.

"What do you mean? These ones are fine! It's beautiful! I love it!" I exclaimed.

There was a smooth texture that carpeted the hardwood floor. The walls were white, much like mine, and though the room was rather small, the way she had decorated it made it look very wide. Next, was her bed. Covered with a fuzzy purple blanket, matching greatly with the sheets that lay underneath.

"Do you really think so?" She asked, fixing the tilted frame on her wall.

"Absolutely!" I said, my eyes widening.

We both sat on her bed and began talking about back in New Hampshire. We continued until the big hand was on the five and I figured I should go home.

Arriving at my house, I opened our black mailbox. There were a few envelopes inside. Four of them were bills for my parents, but there was also a letter and it was addressed to me. I got into my kitchen, and threw the bills down onto the kitchen table. I then began to tear open my letter.

It read,

'Dear Melony,

Hey, it's Ellie and Riley! We just wanna say

that we hope you're doing well in your new home

and that we miss you so much!

I know what you're gonna say. Why didn't you

just text me? Well, we wanted it to be special.

We miss you a ton!

Love, Ellie and Riley😃 '

Tears began to sting my eyes, and I couldn't help but smile. I was happy that they missed me, but sad with the fact that I had to leave them. Ellie and Riley were my best friends. It was always just the three of us in this small group we had. We weren't ever really the type to have guys chasing after us, we were just average girls. Not the skinniest, not the prettiest, but we all loved each other.
