the two had been running around the mall for 2 hours, and y/n had arms covered in bags

"this is such a weird phenomenon! hard pretzels... inside soft pretzels?" y/n questioned.

freddy chuckled as he handed the woman at the desk of the snack stand two single dollars. "welcome to philly!"

"here, can i try?" she asked as he started walking with her. he took a bite out of the pretzel and nodded.

freddy passed it to her and she took a small, cautious bite. "hmm.. it's very, hmm, bread-y."

"well, yeah, it's 2 times the pretzel! i think they're pretty good."

"well, yeah, they are!"

freddy and y/n continued to share their pretzel as they walked out of the mall and waited for al. she sat on a bench and scooted all the way over, to make room for freddy. y/n patted the spot next to her and freddy limped over and sat down.

y/n huffed and laid her head on freddy's shoulder. when freddy felt her, he perked up and turned red.

"oh, sorry freddy." y/n moved her head off of him.

"n-no! you're fine, y-y/n." he stuttered as his cheeks burned.

she smiled a little and put her head on his shoulder. "sorry, ha, the mall really tired me out. i didn't know there were so many stores designed just for jeans!"

"that's the wonder of shopping centers." he laughed a little, which caused y/n to laugh a little with him.

"thanks for showing me around freddy." y/n smiled. "i had so much fun."

freddy stood up when he saw al's car. he helped y/n up with his one free hand and walked to the car together. their hands were still together as they sat down in the vehicle.

"y/n, you wanna come to my house for dinner?" freddy mumbled, but loud enough for her to hear, "i'm sure rosa would be fine with it."

"rosa?"

freddy mentally face palmed. "sorry, haha, rosa's my foster mom."

"oh, sure! al, can i go to freddy's?"

"i suppose. leave your bags in the car, ms l/n. and where does freddy live?"

"oh, [address], sorry." gushed freddy, nervously.

al smiled into the rear-view mirror, looking back. "it's okay."

"let me just text rosa and let her know."

"sure." y/n smiled.

the ride was silent as they rode to freddy's house. y/n was twiddling with his fingers.

she knew this was moving too fast, but she loved being around him. it was like love at first sight.

freddy was so infatuated with the girl to his right that all he thought of on the ride home was their future together. freddy, too, however, was also aware that this was moving quite quickly, since they just met that day. he felt like they were meant to be together.

sadly, neither of the teenagers are good at receiving social cues, so they are both left to believe that this relationship was platonic, and that from y/n's point of view, he was just being friendly to make her feel welcome in th new town, and in freddy's point of view, he thinks she is feeling sympathy towards him since he is practically a loser.

y/n also felt bad for blowing off her mother, but she knew her mother would understand the teenager's brain, since she was once a teenager, too. the thrills of being free from most parental guidance.

silently, y/n looked through the window of the vehicle, watching the benevolent snow-covered evergreens zip past, tree by tree. the sky was lit with a fair amount of stars, however he city was a bright place which led to the massive shortage of the sparkling phenomena. her eyes twinkled along the small houses that were hidden beneath the trees, lit up with christmas trees, and some with candles sat in their windows.

one day, she hoped her and freddy could share a house like those.

woah.

you really do like freddy.

maybe i should ask him out?

no, he should ask you out.

but what if he doesn't like me?

of course he likes you! he's staring at you, right now.

really?

don't look! then he'll notice and stop.

sorry. i just can't help it! he's really cute.

well, of course he is! his cute little curls,
and the way he limps around!

i know, right?

oh, shoot, gotta go. remember, y/n, ask
him out soon!

i will.

then y/n realized she was having a conversation with herself in her head, as if there was an angel and devil over her shoulders. she did not even notice they had arrived at freddy's house.

"ready to go?" freddy nudged her on the arm.

y/n woke up from her little trance and nodded.

"see you, al! i'll text mom when i'm ready to be collected."

al just nodded and drove off. y/n walked up the steps with freddy holding onto her for support. when they got up, freddy twisted the knob only for it to be locked.

he knocked and the door handle jiggled for a second, then a quiet and muffled voice spoke from the other side, "oh, it's locked. i'm stupid.". there was a click and then the door opened.

"hi rosa!" freddy chimed to her.

"oh, hi! you're back late." rosa smiled and let the two in. "you must be y/n." she closed the door behind the kids and smiled.

y/n grinned and turned to her. "yeah! it's so very nice to meet you."

"wow, freddy, you picked well." rosa began to walk into the kitchen and patted freddy on the shoulder on her way. "i'll call you guys for dinner."

looking around freddy's house, y/n felt a real sense of home. even with her own mother had she not felt as welcome as she felt here. the heat of the house made her smile.

"here, let me show you around." freddy smiled. "i have a feeling that dinner's gonna be good. you picked a good night to visit, come on. oh, let's go see my room. hopefully billy's not here right now."
