I waited at the leap master patiently for Linh. I had no way of communicating with her as I couldn't enter her mind without permission... I could track her thoughts though, without reading them of course. I opened my mind and listened for nearby thoughts. There weren't many, as most people had left already. I was shifting through listening for Linh's mental voice when I heard her name being whispered by someone's voice. 'I hope Linh can keep control when we go to Atlantis if I'm allowed. But I won't let Linh go by herself with El.' A deep voice whispered through my head, I stop listening to the voice and start tracking knowing that smooth, deep voice belonged to none other than Tam, Linh's twin brother.

I tugged my hood down just as they reached the final hallway before the leapmaster. I tugged at my black full-length cape that I had put on because it was cold. It was stupid but I wanted to look good for Tam. I know he doesn't trust me but... I trust him. I cringe at my thoughts. Since when did I become a nervous teenager? They came around the corner and I looked up. "How is she not here yet? We took ages" Linh questions Tam, looking around. I jump out of the shadows and yell "Rahh". Linh screams and Tam whips around and lunges for me, pinning me to the ground. I look up to see a shadow-flux blade in his hand, the other around my neck. I yelp in pain, clawing at his hand. "Who are you!" He says squeezing my throat tighter. Just then I realized I was in all black and probably looked very suspicious. He pulled back my hood, yelling it again as Linh stood back, surveying the room for others, hands ready. My long golden hair was flung out of the hood, laying evenly behind my head. His sharp silver-blue eyes met my frightened brown-green ones. He froze for a second, before shaking his head to snap out of it. "Who are you!" He yelled. When I didn't answer he went to jab the blade into my leg. I put my hand out to stop it, half delirious from the lack of air. But as it was about to reach my skin it vanished. "Tam" I croaked out touching his hand lightly before I blacked out.

TAM'S POV

Linh and I headed towards the leapmaster to meet El who had invited Linh to Atlantis. I hope Linh can keep control when we go to Atlantis if I'm allowed. But I won't let Linh go by herself with El. I felt something warm leave my mind, strange. I know El seems very nice but the hood just makes me suspect she's hiding something. I push the thoughts away as we round the corner to the leapmaster. We walk in to see no one there. We look around the room scanning the leapmaster for any sign of life. "How is she not here yet, we took ages," Linh asks me with a confused face. It's true, she had come to find me and I went to find her and we ended up on the opposite sides of the school. My thoughts were cut off by Linh's scream and I whip my head around. There stands a figure in a black cloak. All I could hear was one phrase echoing in my ears before I crash tackled the ominous figure 'the Neverseen is back'.

I summon a shadow-flux blade to my hand, ready to injure the person the moment they become a threat. My hand tightened around their neck "Who are you!" I yelled into their hooded face. They scratched at my hand, trying to speak. I yanked back their hood revealing a girl around my age with long golden brown hair. Her eyes... her eyes were the most amazing mix of brown and green. A dark brown line framed them making the warm brown and light green shine bordered them. I shook my head to knock me out of the trance. I yelled again, not letting her pretty face distract me "Who are you!" She didn't answer so I went to slice the blade across her leg, an injury that could be easily fixed but still encourage her to answer. I was about to slice when the blade disappeared from my hand. I looked over to see both her hands outreached one holding a black ball of what look liked shadow flux, the other a ball of pure white light. She snapped them together both disappearing. I tried to re-summon the shadow flux but even it seemed scared. I looked to her as she lightly touched my hand. "Tam" she rasped out. My eyes widened.

El's body laid against mine her eyes closed. I hadn't thought it through, my actions had been spontaneous and stupid and hadn't even given her the chance to speak until it was to late. I sat there, alone by the leapmaster. I didn't know if it was safe to move her and I wasn't taking any more chances. A single tear slipped from my eye and off my face. "don't cry" a voice whispered from under me. I looked down to see El looking up at me, eyes half open and neck red. She lets out a shaky breath, "I'm fine now, just passed out". I pulled her closer to me. I was so judgemental and suspicious of her when I was the person who choked her. "It's not fine, I could've killed you just because I didn't recognize you." I sighed. "I understand if you hate me," I whispered out, loosening my grip on her. "I don't hate you, I understand what you've been through and you were just trying to protect Linh, look I'm fine, see?" She stands up and I stand up too. She stays upright for about a second before collapsing. I grab her, not letting her hit the ground. "Okay maybe I can't walk but that's because I haven't been standing for a while," El says snuggling closer into my chest. I pull her in welcoming it, but my brain is shouting at me, telling me she could be deceptive and that we haven't read her shadow vapor. I look down at her and ask "Can I read your shadow vapor" She tenses up. 'way to ruin it brain' "Sure," El says anyway. I feel the blizzard blasting through my head before feeling her shadow vapor. It feels overwhelming but also like... nothing. It's like there are shadows there but there is something equally bright blocking them out. I open my eyes and hug her closer, my brain screaming at me "sorry I have trust issues, last time I didn't read someone's shadow vapor they betrayed us". She nods. It almost scared me how understanding she was, made me think of what she went through in the neutral territories to make this seem like nothing. But my thoughts were interrupted when Linh ran in with Elwin before examining the situation and smiling.
