Naïla :
I don't really know what Leola was expecting to accomplish by teaming up with two idiots who were as wanted by the kingdom as us, but then again who was I to doubt the word of the person who just got me out of prison... She was still talking to them but I'd stopped listening a few hundred meters ago. See, I had absolutely no interest in learning about whatever illegal mess this loud girl and her quiet friend had gotten into. What I wanted, was to know why my magic wasn't back. Unlike most Casters who were either dead, imprisoned, on the run-then again I was on the run now wasn't I ?-or crippled I could still sense and use the flux of energy that coursed through my veins. Or at least I did, until I got captured. After His Royal Shitty Majesty had banned Casters and any use of Caster magic he had burned the libraries, destroyed most of our books and that hypocrite had even used a spell to block the flux. Some of the most talented and rebellious Casters still managed to pump a little magic at a time but never enough to create High Level Casts. And me ?Well I had just gotten lucky, found a loophole, stayed hidden. Obviously that worked out great for me.
As I was reflecting upon the irritating absence of my magic, we had reached the top of one of the ten hills at the outskirts of the capital. I turned around and stared at the technological prowess that was the city. Like the rings of a tree the five districts surrounded the old stone castle (who's roof was now smoking a little thanks to the impromptu jet crash) each one more advanced and magnificent than the other.
Disgusting.
That was what the King had banned magic for ?
"This is my life now. I have climbed this hill and now I will die upon it." The mechanic (Chris I think ? I hadn't paid attention to names.) threw herself on the ground dramatically, a hand over her heart. I kicked her lightly in the side.
"Shut up, we've only been walking for twenty minutes. We are nowhere near Ohano."
"You know Miss Magical Know-it-all, you could have just teleported us to Ohano, that would have been faster and that way we wouldn't have had to impersonate a military official. But nooooo, we have to walk all the way there. What's the point of having magic if you don't use it properly !"
"Are you clinically insane or incredibly annoying ?"
"I don't know probably both, why?"
"I can't use my Casts just like that. It'd mess with the flux in a way that Sentinels would notice."
"The What, the Who, the Why, the How now ?"
"Just get up and keep walking." I sighed and kicked her once more, this was going to be a long journey...
The girl managed to stay quiet as long as we walked down the hill, but it didn't take long before the red-headed boy started talking in her place.
"So, all we know is that your names are Naïla and Leola and that you're both outlaws. Care to elaborate ?"
"Leola you're it, I've done enough talking with those two idiots for at least ten more hours."
I sat down in the grass my legs held tight against my chest, I knew Leole well enough to be certain she would be telling the whole story, and it was a long one.
