Past
Six months after the case went cold, the police decided to interview everyone that Leah had close communication with. Checking everyone's alibis and identifying anyone acting suspiciously when talking about Leah.
These were the locations of each person on the night of the fire that were confirmed by the police:
Josh and Katie were at a restaurant together.
Katie's clique made up of Hannah, Beth and Chloe were at the ice rink together.
Millie was at home with her parents
Leah and I were together in the house.
However, there was one person's alibi that didn't check out.
James.
My brother.
During his interview, he explained how he was with his girlfriend, Kacey. The police then questioned her, but she denied that they were ever together on the night of Leah's death. You see, James' girlfriend was involved with drugs and alcohol. They made an agreement to not tell anyone about their relationship because my mum would strongly disagree with it. When they were questioned, Kacey kept that promise for him while James broke it. My brother obviously understood that a stupid girlfriend shouldn't have to come between justice for his sister's best friend.
Kacey wasn't really questioned that much because she and Leah had never met. On the other hand, James was continuously questioned but he refused to say anything. For him, the idea of people thinking that he would kill his sister's best friend was crazy and he wouldn't offer anything that would cause him to be any more of a suspect than he already was. The authorities were confused as James did not have a motive to kill Leah.
Eventually, he was no longer considered a suspect and the case went cold once again.
