Elke's POV

"Have you ever had a special someone, Elke?" Hanji asked me. I took a sip of my drink.

"Depends what you mean by 'special someone'," I replied with a grin.

"Ok then, someone who you've been in love with, so to speak."

I shrugged at her, feeling my cheeks warm up.

"Well, there was someone I used to have a crush on, but who doesn't say I don't have a crush on someone now?"

"Oooooooo!" Hanji squealed. She turned to Levi, who was sitting on the sofa in my office. "How about you, Levi?"

"Not really," he replied flatly, taking a sip of his drink. Adeline, who was perched on the other end of the sofa, yawned widely.

"And you, Adeline?" I asked in a jokey sort of way, knowing what the answer was already.

"Yes," she replied, and her tone was genuine. "There was someone."

I was completely taken aback and intrigued. I'd never take Ade to be the sort of person to fall in love, since she is so convinced love is blind and that she hates herself right now because she thinks she falling for someone. (She won't tell me who it is but I totally think it's Erwin - I ship it!)

"Ooo, do tell," I urged. She grinned a little: alcohol seems to lighten her mood.

"Okay, fine. His name was Kurt."

I gestured for her to continue.

"I met him when I joined the cadets. He was the sort of guy, you know, everyone had a crush on him, including me. And it turned out he had a crush on me too, so, that was cool..." she trailed off. I could tell she was a little uncomfortable because she started fiddling with the sofa fabric next to her, but she still continued.

"He made me feel great about myself. He accepted me, you know? But one day Emmerich came and told me that he'd caught him with someone else, and that Kurt had threatened to KILL him, just because Emmerich caught him. Of course I denied it, but still decided to confront him about it. He made me feel awful for doubting him. I left it for a while, until a few days before we were set to go on an expedition..."

The room was silent for a moment. I was about to tell her to stop because she looked a little upset - only a tiny bit because of course, it's Ade we're talking about here - but, again, she continued.

"I can still remember it now. He shouted at me, screamed at me even, because he still thought that I doubted him. I assured him I didn't, which wasn't true. The day before the expedition, I too caught him with someone else. Then he shouted again, and told me that he never loved me anyway, that he thought I was weak."

That wasn't an unfamiliar word.

"Then when the expedition finally arrived, he messed up and a titan got to him. I froze up, and was about to save him, but instead, he was eaten right in front of me... and what was worse, I didn't feel anything. Not one bit of sadness. I didn't cry one tear."

I looked down at the floor, not knowing what to say.

"I told myself, from that day on, that I wasn't going to let anyone get to me like that ever again. No one."

I looked at Hanji, who looked a little traumatised by the story. Even Levi looked a little startled: clearly this was one story from Ade's past that she hadn't told him yet. No one said anything.

"Ah, I apologise," Adeline said with a sheepish smile. "It seems alcohol loosens my tongue a little too much..."

She set her bottle down on the table, getting up to leave.

"Sorry to ruin your night. I'll let you get back to... drinking your woes away," she added before departing, with hatred towards the 'drinking your woes away' part. I don't think it was meant at us, I think it was more at the alcohol for anything else. That's probably because it DEFINITELY loosened her tongue way too much. She wouldn't usually share that sort of information with all of us, with the exception of maybe Levi. She opened the door to leave my office.

"Wait, Ade!"

"No, E," Levi interrupted. She'd already gone anyway.

"Let her go."

So these little OC stories are starting to go more into Adeline's past, as will the next story (it will literally be set in the past). The prompt for this was 'Let her go' and the prompt was from RyuuRekka because we've been giving each other short prompts and writing about them, so go check out her account and her OC Elke! (Elke features in stories on this account)
Hope you are enjoying! I promise that soon I'll get back onto writing more X reader One Shots as well as these OC stories. Feel free to suggest anything and please point out any mistakes if you see them!
