"Yesssss!" Sasha hissed. She seemed to be the only one pleased about their activity.
"Ugh, we never use bows," Jean moaned.
"We never use loads of things we do in training, but do I give a shit? No. I don't. So get on with it," Levi snapped. Adeline folded her arms across her chest, sighing. Clearly he was in a bad mood.
"Adeline, you're up first."
She silently picked up a bow and loaded it with an arrow. She pulled back the string, and-
"Having a go with a bow are we now, Ade?" Elke said joyfully, putting an arm around Adeline's neck and patting her head, making her loosen the string without sending the arrow flying towards the target.
"I won't be trying very hard as it is of no use to me," Adeline replied flatly. "Don't you have a Squad to be training with?"
"Yeah, but they'll be fine for a minute. Plus I want a go with a bow!"
"Yeah! How about Squad Leader Elke versus Adeline?" Connie marvelled.
"I wouldn't mind!" Elke added. Adeline looked at Levi, waiting for a response.
"Whatever."
"I'm not in the mood for competition, Levi," Adeline said.
"I don't care. And that's Captain to you, Suttelburg."
Very clearly a bad mood.
Elke stepped back to stand with the rest of the group as Adeline turned to face the target once again. She pulled back her string, closing one eye to aim her shot, finally letting go. The arrow sunk into the target on the outermost ring.
"Dammit."
Adeline could hear Jean snickering, so she flashed him a death look. If looks could kill...
"My turn!" Elke squealed, practically tearing the weapon from Adeline's hands. Elke aimed and pulled back her string, letting go not even a second after. Sure enough, it landed straight in the bullseye.
"Bullseye!" She exclaimed. Everyone (except Levi and Adeline) burst into applause. Elke took a large bow, then walked over to Adeline.
"My work here is done," she said proudly, shoving the bow back into her hands. Elke walked back over to her Squad.
Adeline's jaw tightened, her expression still cold. Her eyes flickered to Levi's.
"Disappointing," he commented. "But amusing to watch."
"Je voudrais veux voir faire mieux, nabot," she scathed in French. He eyed her.
"I don't know what you just said, but I don't like it."
Adeline smirked the tiniest bit.
"Apologies, Captain."
