Sienna cautiously walked up the rusty stairs to the Morris house. She took a huge breath, knocked three times and then stuffed her hands in her coat pockets. Sienna looked around for a sign of anyone. Realizing there was some mail left untouched on the doorstep, she bent over and picked it up. Sienna just about reached her hand to knock once more when there was a twist of the door handle. The door was opened an inch wide to reveal only Kyle’s sharp blue eyes. “What are you doing here?” he muttered, taking the mail from Sienna. Sienna was shocked and didn’t say anything. Just as Kyle was about to close the door but she blurted out “Wait, um. I’m here to tutor you.” Kyle raised his wrist and checked his watch: 4:12. “Well you’re early.” He grunted. “Can we start early?” Sienna asked. Kyle sighed and walked out, closing the door behind him. “Fine, but we’ll have to do it out here. My grandparents are resting.” He turned his head back towards the house and she thought that she saw him shudder. Then he made his way down onto the porch steps.

“Um, well it always helps if you read a book in French that you’ve read in English before.” Sienna piped up handing him ‘Catcher in the Rye’. Kyle accepted the book and stared at her suspiciously “How do you know I’ve read it?” “I saw you? Once..? At lunch… You were reading it.” Sienna admitted guiltily. He stared at her again with his piercing blue eyes. His piercing blue eyes. How annoying and yet admiring could a pair of eyes get? “My mother used to always read this book to me. But she never got to finish it…” He paused his mouth open in mid sentence. “Oh… Well it’s a nice story.” She smiled reaching in her bag to get out worksheets for him to do.

“What are you doing here?” “Um, Mr. Roux wants you to review how to use present tense an-” “What do you want?” Kyle interrupted her, placing the book to his left side. “What makes you think that I want something?” asked Sienna. “Because you never do anything without a reason.” He replied. She tensed and asked, “Did Annabella tell you that?” He immediately replied, “Nobody had to tell me that.” Sienna sighed, reached for her bag and stood up, “Uh, I kind of have to go now. Um, I have like well a family dinner to go to like right now.” Kyle stared at her, “It’s four thirty-one. You said you were going to tutor me until 5:30.” Sienna tried to ignore him and rushed down the stairs and walked a few steps on the pavement, but Kyle jogged up to her and reached for her arm and grabbed it and held on to it tightly. Sienna panicked and turned around, and stared directly at his piercing blue eyes. His piercing blue eyes. She couldn’t think, she tried to force her legs to move but they wouldn’t budge. His eyes…

“Why are you here?” he asked, but Sienna seemed to be in some sort of trance so he repeated himself again but more firm and loud “I said, why are you here?” At this time, Sienna muttered, “Your eyes, they’re beautiful.” Hearing this, Kyle froze and loosened his grip. Tears formed in his eyes, making his sharp blue eyes turn into a dull, blurry blue. He winced and gulped as he walked back up the porch steps.

Sienna couldn’t believe what had just happened. Did she just tell Kyle about his eyes? She had a mini heart attack: What would he think of me? She repeated to herself again and again.  But then she realized that his eyes had turned into a dull blue, and his eyes were red. And watery. ‘Oh my god’ she whispered covering her hands to her mouth. Was he crying? Because of her? What did she do wrong this time?
