-Mae-
"An argument?!" Serenity yells causing those in the café to look over at us. Heat floods my cheeks as I quietly shush her. She mutters an apology, taking her cappuccino in her hand before bringing it up to her lips. I sigh heavily, leaning back in my chair.
Hunter hasn't spoken to me all week and I'm starting to get a little worried. The more I think about what happened, the more I feel bad about it.
Maybe I shouldn't have been so stubborn.
School has only been getting harder because of this whole situation. I can't focus on anything anymore. Not that I could to begin with. College is seeming to become impossible the longer I stay here, thoughts full of Hunter and only Hunter.
"What happened?" She asks, grabbing a napkin to dab away her mustache of cream. I simply shrug. "Oh, come on! Why tell me something happened then not elaborate?"
I sigh in defeat, quickly trying to word out what I should say in my head. If I told her exactly what was happening, she'd think I'm even more crazy than she already does. I don't need another broken bond as well as Serenity thinking I needed to be put in an insane asylum on top of all of this.
Is this how Hunter feels? Not being able to tell the whole truth?
"I feel like he's keeping something from me." I shake my head and lean forward again. "No, I know he is. I just don't know what, though I'm pretty sure it's bad."
"How so?"
"He's thinks it would be dangerous for me if I found out."
"Well, it better be worth the fight," She starts, placing her cup back onto the table. "I know keeping things from your partner is a big no-no-"
"We're not even partners?" She shoots me a glare for interrupting and I gulp.
"But, sometimes you just got to trust them." I roll my eyes, looking out the window to my left. "Sometimes, things are better left unsaid."
"Yeah, sometimes." Cue the eye roll, though this time, it was from Serenity. "What if this wasn't one of those times?"
"Why don't you ask him, then?"
"Don't you think I've tried?" She shrugs and I shake my head. "It's not that simple."
"What's not that simple?" A familiar voice cuts through our conversation. Serenity and I look up, confusion written all over her face and a smile creeping on mine.
"Jaime, hey." I say, bring my hand up to wave at him. Serenity looks at me with her brow lifted. "This is Serenity."
"The one, the only." She jokes, holding out her hand for him to take. He smiles widely, eyes never leaving her face.
"Nice to meet you, Serenity." Her eyebrow lifts and I swear I see her cheeks flush. Looking elsewhere, I awkwardly take a sip out of my drink. One of us have to get the guy. Obviously, that one isn't me.
"Mae was just talking about her love life-"
"Yeah," I interrupt. "Lack thereof." Serenity rolls her eyes while Jaime pulls up a chair.
