------------
"Now the real question is," I start, leaning in closer to the table. "How do we find him?"
Jaime sucks his teeth, sighing heavily while shaking his head. "Do you even know me? How do you not know what I do for a living?"
"By 'a living,' you mean using what your parents pay for while you lock yourself in your room and hack away?" I joke, snatching my bag of chips away from them. Jaime's mouth hangs open as Serenity bursts out in laughter, slamming her hand on the table.
"You should be glad!" He throws a straw wrapper at me, unable to hide his smile. He holds out his hand, nudging his head towards my phone. "All you have to do is give me his number and I'll use my skills to find your man."
"Stop saying that!" I slap his shoulder before folding my arms and looking out the window.
"Well, stop blushing then!" Serenity chokes out through her laughs, wiping a tear that escaped her eye.
"Women." Jaime sighs, snatching my phone away from me. Serenity and I glare at him and he throws his hands up, surrendering. He opens my phone, searching for what I assume to be Hunter's number.
My insides wrench as he works, mind wandering to what it could be Hunter's hiding. It could be anything and that terrifies me more than anything.
I just hope that he's safe. That we're safe. That's all that matters now.
-Hunter-
Shit. Shit. Shit!
Okay, okay. Just breathe.
I try to calm myself down, holding onto my chest as I gasp for air. Sweat rolled down my face, dripping from my chin. The air around me grew thick and warm despite it being mid-winter, making it seemingly impossible to relax.
Countless of unknown faces walked past me, some of them not even noticing how off I looked. Those that did just ignored it, looking away as quickly as it took to lock eyes. Maybe I don't look as crazy as I think I do, though, if I were the second party, I'd think I'd just escaped a madhouse.
My whole body was shaking as my chest tightened, making me stumble as I walked along the streets. The whole world seemed to rotate around me and I simply couldn't find my balance.
I can't do this anymore. This is the last time, I swear.
I stop at the location I was sent, looking up at the apartment complex. It was an old one judging by the barred windows and rusty stairways just outside each of them. I took a deep breath in before entering, swallowing hard.
I walk towards the elevator at the left side of the main entrance, slamming on the 'up' button multiple times. My breathing only became more erratic as I approached my destination.
I scratch at my arms to attempt to calm my nerves, though I only end up peeling off the scabs from the last mission I was sent on. Blood trickles down my arm, creating a pool of crimson red liquid on the floor. Hissing and cursing under my breath, I pull down my sleeve, covering up my wounds. If I scratch any more, I swear I'll end up seeing bone.
