Yoongi was on his slow walk to his classroom, obviously in no rush whatsoever to strand himself in 7 hours of Ap Physics and Pre-Calc.
This was a mistake as walking at a snails pace would only lead to the loud steps behind him catching up faster."Yoongi-Hyung!" Exclaimed Jimin, practically jumping him to prevent any sudden escape.
Yoongi cursed under his breath, staggering as this small little boy seemed to weigh an elephant. "Stop smothering me."
"Sorry Hyung." Said Jimin endearingly, swiping off invisible dust from Yoongi's shoulder in apology.
"Did you hear?" Asked Jimin animatedly, "About Y/n?"
Yoongi's eyes furrowed. Was something wrong? If it was going around school then it must be big.
Yoongi's change in expression gave Jimin all the signs of curiosity he needed. Even if he wasn't interested, he still would've spilled. He surely would've been interested after he heard the news.
"Seokjin-Hyung is going to ask out Y/n!" Exclaimed Jimin.
Huh.
Rather than give a big production of shock and disappointment (Although he felt both), he stayed silent, no change to his face besides a small sigh that slipped from his lips. The ends of Jimin's eyes lowered in sympathy, knowing full well how Yoongi felt about you. No amount of stone face could hide that from Jimin with how long they've known each other.
"You have to do something Hyung!"
Yoongi glared, "Don't be ridiculous."
Yoongi walked away from Jimin without a word, and Jimin let him, knowing that too much chatter about his feeling would turn his heartache into anger. Although that already seemed to be happening. Jimin just hoped that Yoongi wouldn't just give up.
~~~
Yoongi decided that he didn't want to see you today, so he skipped all his classes to sit by the tree outside the school, wishing for his music to drag him away from this world and any girl that he could somehow harbor feelings for. Love was a crazy little thing, and it's craziness was somehow contagious as Yoongi felt insane himself. What was this sharp pain that seemed to spread out from the center of his chest? The news should mean nothing to him, you were going to be taken any moment now anyway.
Besides, the more he thought about it, Jin was a better fit for you anyway. Literally anybody would be a better fit for you than himself, but it just so happened that the one to jump was better than him in literally every aspect possible. Jin was sweet, thoughtful, and could cook. Sure he was a little self-obsessed but it was a healthy amount that was just to make people laugh. Yoongi and Jin were friends, so he should be feeling happy for both.
But why were all these thoughts just making it hurt more?
~~~
Yoongi heard the school bell ring, and he had surprised himself to find that he had spent 7 hours by a tree, sulking. Pathetic really. He should do that more often. Yoongi was about to get up, figuring that the first step to moving on was actually moving. That was until someone came along.
"Yoongi." Spoke a quiet voice. "I didn't see you in class today."
Yoongi stood up coldly, wiping off any grass on his knees, "Yeah. I just didn't feel like it today."
"Hey," You said timidly, "Can we walk home together today?"
As much as Yoongi wanted to, he didn't think he could last for that long besides you, especially after thinking solely about you for the past 7 hours.
Yoongi exhaled, "I need to speak to a teacher about homework actually."
"Oh," you said disappointedly, "I'll see you tomorrow."
Something about your face told Yoongi that you knew that homework wasn't the only reason he couldn't go. Your shoulders visibly slumped and your legs seemed to drag themselves just a little bit more as you walked away from him. Don't ask him how he noticed these things, he wished he couldn't, because all these little signs led him to stand up to run after you.
He didn't stop until he was walking beside you, surprising you, Yoongi on purpose didn't meet your eyes. "I can always ask tomorrow in the morning."
You put on a light smile, straightening your posture in contentment. That alone made Yoongi sigh in relief.
There was a long silence without any speaking until you broke the silence, "So what caused such a bad enough mood that you skipped class?"
Yoongi shrugged nonchalantly, "Just a having a bad day I guess."
You nodded in understanding, leading to another long silence as the neighborhood came into view. You both lived in the same community, just on different blocks.
"I heard Jin asked you out." Yoongi said.
"Uh huh."
"That's great."
Yoongi gave himself a mental facepalm for that.
You turned to him, stopping you both in your tracks. "Is it?"
Yoongi avoided your probing stare. "Yeah, you guys look really good together. You both will probably last awhile, grow to be the power cou-."
"I said no."
Now it was Yoongi's turn to stare, "What?"
"I said no to Jin." You said, ignoring his shocked face, "What led you to assume that I said yes?"
Now in an awkward position, Yoongi took longer to answer.
"Well, it's just...you we're the one complaining that no one would date you."
You narrowed your eyes, not a good sign. Yoongi suddenly wished he had kept his lie to visit a teacher after school.
"Just because I'm some hopeless romantic doesn't mean I'm would jump at any guy that decides I'm worth their time." You said firmly, shaking your head, "Is that how I come off to you? Desperate to be wanted?"
God, she was mad. And as the coldest boy in school, his personality would force Yoongi to match hostility with his own. No matter how much he would regret it later.
Yoongi took a step back. "What? Are you too good for even the likes of guys like Jin? Jin is not just 'any guy'."
You were pissed, but mostly disappointed that Yoongi of all people would say this. "What? No! Why would you say that?"
"Jin is the most sought after boy in the whole school. Any girl would call you crazy for not swooning over him, let alone rejecting him."
"You think I'm some basic fan girl? What if I liked someone else?"
Yoongi shook his head in doubt. "Who would you possibly choose over the school prince?"
You were tearing up by now, with your words coming out cracked and forced. "I used to know, but now I'm not so sure anymore."
You pushed past Yoongi, purposely bumping shoulders as you walked past, leaving Yoongi in the dust. You turned around one more time.
"When I asked you to walk with me, I had just wanted to tell you that I don't like Jin more than a friend, and I never will."
A tear fell down your cheek as you struggled to make out one more sentence before breaking down.
"It was really important to me that you know that."
