Kehlani's POV

-
6 months later...

Niesha, Tristen, Carter, and I started to hang out together a lot as the months went on. Honestly it was fun hanging out with them, but as he did 6 months ago, at the beginning of the year, Carter was still controlling over Tristen.

Tristen seemed to suck it up a lot, but I didn't understand why. If he was really his best friend he would just confront him about the "looks" he was giving me.

I talked to Niesha about it a lot and we would try to get Tristen to hit back by saying "you gonna let him do that," or "Tristen pop off," but it never worked.

Today at lunch we sat outside by the side entrance. We considered it our spot because we sat there all the time. When other groups sat there they'd literally see us and walk away, it was our territory in sense.

We sat there chilling and cracking jokes with each other. Tristen told one of those jokes that was so stupid, it ended up being funny, leaving me to laugh super hard.

He seemed satisfied seeing that I laughed a little harder at his dumb joke than our other two friends. We made eye contact, still smiling like a goof from laughing, for a split second until Carter got up randomly. We were all confused for a second as we looked at him weirdly.

"Hey come here real quick," he said looking at Tristen. He got up moving slowly, obviously still not understanding what the hell was going on.

"Whats up bro?" The boy answered but as soon as he got over by Carter, he was punched dead in the face.

I got up pushing Carter away from the boy, who didn't deserve to be punched.

"What the hell did you do that for," he didn't answer me instead he grabbed my hand, "answer me! What did he do for him to deserve that?" I shouted gesturing to Tristen.

He threw his hands in the air as if he didn't do anything wrong, which irritated the absolute shit out of me.

"He's going to take you away from me by lying to you." He then walked away angrily.

I looked over at Tristen who was rubbing his jaw and spitting out blood. I felt awful that I couldn't control my lunatic boyfriend. Niesha was standing over by him, checking on him, as I felt useless in this situation. I just didn't know what to do to be honest.

I sighed and sat next to him, rubbing his back. Maybe it was a weird gesture any other time, but right now he seemed a little less tense by what I was doing.

"Tristen, you didn't deserve that, he's probably just in one of his moods today," he shrugged, "do you need an ice pack?" I continued.

"Nah, I'm good. It didn't necessarily hurt, just caught me off guard." I nodded.

I really wanted to ask him what Carter meant when he said he was going to take me away but I held that question to myself, deciding to make myself useful by grabbing him an ice pack.

I knew when he was lying.

At home, I sat bored on my phone. There was a party that Carter asked me to go to with him but I ended up passing on the offer because I needed to study for an upcoming test in math.
