Chapter 8

Athena's POV

"That was amazing. Here's your money, take it and leave it." He said as he took a couple of hundred dollar bills and threw it on me.
I really felt so cheap. His actions were breaking my already shattered heart.

I picked my clothes from the ground and walked out of his study before giving him a glance.

I was greeted by a devious smirk.

With tears seeping through my pallid face I walked out of the mansion. Since it is summer, the sun didn't forget to grant me with his heat.

I wiped my face and made my way to Joshua's driver Mr. Adams. I know him for many years, he is a great man in his 40s with such a great personality. I smiled at him.

"Good afternoon, Ms. Athena. Hope your day is good" he told and walked towards me

"Good afternoon, Mr. Adams. It's good and stops with this formality. Please call me Ena like you have always greeted me." I don't want him to treat me differently just because I married Joshua. If I remember correctly, I knew him since my mother started working for the Walkers.

"Okay Ena, Are you going somewhere?" He asked me.

"yeah, I need to purchase some grocery because there's nothing edible in the kitchen, So can you please take me to the closest grocery shop."I told him smiling.

"Well then hop in, the grocery shop is quite far but we can reach there within 15 minutes," he told as he walked towards the car.

I followed him quietly and took my place in the car.

Just before Mr. Adams was about to start the engine he got a call. I saw Joshua's name flashing on his mobile phone screen.

God, what's the next headache?

"Ena, wait here Mr. Joshua is calling me. I'll be right back." He said before moving out of the driving seat.

I looked at Mr. Adams walking to the mansion and heaved a sigh.

I took a moment to rewind the events that had taken place in my life since I was lawfully wedded to Joshua. I can't blame it on my fate because I was the one who chose the hell for me. The horrendous memories of the latest happenings had successfully created a sense of terror in me. I could feel the waves of insecurity attacking me and felt myself standing there like a bird without wings to fly.

I don't know why Joshua is holding grudges against me. All these years I was treated indifferently and badly by him. He never fails to show his dislike towards me. I don't understand what is wrong being a maid.
My mother was the most hardworking person I have ever seen. Her heart was a symbol of purity and love. She had looked after Joshua more than his own mother yet he hates her way too much. I remember my mother feeding Joshua with her own hands and always making his favorite dishes.

In spite of my mother's care and attention towards Joshua, he hates her. He would always mock at our state of living. I could write a story about how Joshua has treated us so poorly just because we were the one who took care of his belongings for little money that could provide us a stable income. There are many maids back in Walker's mansion but he never treated them badly. He had raised his venomous words against me and my poor mother.

It seems true that God would always take away those people who are really good inside and out.

Uncle Robert doesn't know how many grudges Joshua hold against me. That is the main reason why he had asked me to marry Joshua. I am nothing like those girls Joshua had dated. They are size zero and I have curves wherever human body can have. Talking about my educational qualifications, I am a completely contrasting wife Joshua could ever get because I don't have a degree. I never set my foot inside a college. I have completed my high school and after that, I stopped because I was not in a good financial status to acquire some further education. I don't know anything about fashion and politics. I am an illiterate like Joshua had always said. All I know is about household chores and the degree of a maid/servant. No wonder why Joshua dislikes me more.
