Her vibrant wings of delicate lace
Propel her about the sky in grace
Amongst petals floating in the breeze
Weaving and wavering about the trees.
For a brief moment in morning's time
I thought maybe she could be mine
But these thoughts were simple dreams
and dreams are rarely what they seem
I loved the elusive butterfly
But she always seems to pass me by
Day by day, I'll chase her here
A place where dreams become clear.
Butterfly fluttered upon a rose
Protecting the secret that only she knows
Spreading her wings: A dainty show
I beg you, tell me what you know.
Now, raindrops falling at my feet
I always wonder why love tastes bittersweet
Butterfly taunts me about the trees
And float off as easily as the breeze.
I watch my friend in the sky
When a sudden shock comes crashing by
A trap of unfortunate and scary things
The echoes as someone who sings
He comes near with an open smile
Disgusting joy all the while
He's calling come! Pretty butterfly.
And you were never one to be shy.
He wants the colour of your wings
And all the knowledge your beauty brings
Stolen from my grasping fingers
Left with a chilling breeze that lingers.
The imagination of a joyful boy
Did my heart destroy.
Fell with raindrops at my feet
A life unable to be complete
