Today was a good day.

"What?" She asked in confusion as she bent down to his level. He flinched as she sat down her leg touching his knee. Instantly she pulled away knowing she made him feel uncomfortable.

"Stars. I have never seen the stars." He carried on.
"Okay. I'll show you stars." She replied, an idea revealing into her head. She stood up leaving her bag behind but pulling out her keys.
She made her way towards the door,  swinging it open.

"Will you come back?" He croaked.
"Yes, I will. I promise." She walked away leaving him alone, once again.
"Don't make promises you can't keep." His words stumbled out in anger and his fingers tightened around his hair.
He decided to kill time by sleeping, preventing him from becoming angry.

Ace woke up a half an hour later. His eyes adjusted to the naked bulb in from of him. He sat up, his body felt rigid and his muscles felt tight. Saliva pooled in his mouth and he quickly swallowed it.

His breathing pace began to quicken as he realised what was happening. He let out a scream and covered his head with his arms and legs.
Aces body rocked forwards and backwards, a technique he learnt from his therapist to calm him down.
Tears stained his cheeks and hit the cold floor he was sitting on. The air was silent and all that could be heard was the flattering of the shackles that were bound to his wrists.

His cries calmed down and he fell asleep once again.
Another hour went by and Kyla arrived.
Kyla's smile instantaneously lit up Aces dim room as she entered.

Her smile faltered however as she saw Aces body on the dirty floor.
"Ace." She whispered.
He stirred and then finally opened his eyes.
"Kyla! You came back." He smiled groggily as he sat up.
"I did promise." She smiled back.
"Where did you go?" He asked her. Her smile grew bigger as she pulled something out of her pocket.
Ace furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. She giggled and began speaking,
"It's a star projector. Look." She stood up, startling Ace, as he thought she was going to leave again.
"Breathe, Ace, I promise I'm not going anywhere. I swear." She held out her pinkie which he gladly wrapped his around hers.
She smiled once again and turned the lights out but not before asking,
"Are you scared of the dark?" She asked sympathy laced in her words. She was too but it wasn't that bad. He shook his head vigorously and told her to carry on.
She nodded and flicked the lights off.
Ace sat there for a moment in the dark but then gasped loudly as stars illuminated the ceiling and walls.
Kyla watched as Ace walked around the room tracing each star with his fingertips. She listened to him as he mumbled incomplete sentences to himself. She only heard one sentence though.

I wish I knew all the constellations

Kyla gained another idea and laid in the floor, her hands rested against her stomach.
Ace stared at her intently as she did so and soon followed her after.

She turned to one side and flipped a switched on the projector, the function was specifically made for constellations.
Aces eyes widened as the stars changed from little dots to lines and words.
"There." She said, happy with what she had done.
"This is amazing." He said watching the ceiling as she listed and pointed to all the constellations.
"What else haven't you done?" She asked him.
He was silent for a moment debating whether or not to tell her.
"It's stupid." He said shaking his head.
"No, it's not. Tell me." She pushed him further.
"Okay. I've never...danced before. Like a slow dance." A slight tinge of red took place on his cheeks.
She smiled at his response and pulled out her phone.
"Any suggestions?" She shook the phone in the air, grinning.
He shook his head and allowed her to choose.
Her finger pressed play as soon as she found her favourite song.

"My mom, she used to listen to this song all the time." Ace said tears brimming in his eyes.
It was his favourite song, he listened to it repeatedly. Eventually, he grew tired of it but listened to it every now and again, when he was allowed too.

Kyla walked towards Ace and stopped leaving a gap between them, making sure she didn't make him feel uncomfortable.

She then ever so gently grabbed his hand and placed it on her waist.
Ace watched her with intensity but didn't move his hands away from her.
After doing so she placed her hands on his shoulders, however, it was harder to do this due to her small frame.
The song danced along the room as they did the same.
They spent hours playing the song, dancing and talking.

"Times up." The guard grumbled once more.
Sadness overtook both of them as the words rang through the air.
"I'll come tomorrow I promise." Kyla smiled attempting to reassure him.

Ace nodded, knowing everything she said was true and responded with a grin.
"Bye Ace." She waved him off. She abruptly stopped when Ace pulled her into a hug.

"I'm sorry." He whispered.
"It's okay." She hugged him back tighter and then left.
"Bye Kyla." He said quietly.
The guard escorted ace to his room, usually Ace would say something snarky and sarcastic to him. But this time was different.
This time as Ace entered his room. The same sentence was running through his head.

"Today was a good day."
