"What about Tom?" I asked them, dread taking me over.
"He... The doctors said there is a chance he will die in a few months if his body can't stabilize itself out, until then he will remain in a coma. There is only a 10% chance that it will stabilize itself though." I felt my heart drop at his words.
"What if it does stabilize itself out?"
"Then he will live, but it is unlikely."
"Thank you, you are dismissed." Both soldiers walked out, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I decided to walk around to take my mind off of things. I ended up out by the training grounds where soldiers ran around, going to different outdoor tasks. It wasn't long before I saw a familiar face approach me.
"Red leader, sir", Owen addressed me while saluting.
"Can I help you?"
"I was wondering if you knew how Tom was doing sir". I was a little annoyed at how much Owen cared for Tom and at how close Tom and Owen seemed to be, but I replied anyways.
"Tom is doing fine-" That was a lie "-Now get back to training". With that Owen gave a quick nod and salute before walking back to whatever he was doing. I rolled my eyes and kept walking around.
I found myself at the infirmary and asked if I could go in to see Tom. They let me in and I closed the door as I walked to the room that Tom was in. He was hooked up to various machines and had a number of liquids flowing into him through different IV's. His heartbeat was around 125 bpm, faster than a normal resting heart rate, but it was probably from all the trauma his body had encountered. I sat down by his bed, stroking the brits hair away from his face. I felt tears sting my eyes from seeing him like this, but I held them back.
I really just wanted to see him awake again, hopefully soon. I stared at his face, a flashback of my dream flashing in my mind.
'This was your fault, I told you all you ever do is hurt me'.
I felt a pang in my heart as I recalled the words, venom and hatred had laced everyone. I told myself that it was just a dream, that it wasn't real, but part of my knew the words he said were true. After all I was the reason he was like this. I was the one who betrayed him. I. Was. The. One. Who. Hurt. Tom. I felt unwanted tears run down my face as I let it all sink in.
I couldn't stand seeing him like this anymore. I traced my fingers over his eyes and realized that his vr set wasn't there. How I didn't notice before, I don't know. (It's called plot development Tord) There was a possibility that that could have also affected him. Suddenly I got an idea of how to help make him better. I stood up and rushed out the door and down the hall. I got to the lab then went to the engineering and robotics section. I was one of the only people who used this part, but I was fine with that. I grabbed some of the tools and materials that I needed then sat down at a large desk. I arranged and sorted out my stuff, running back to grab wires, sauter, a sheet of specific translucent conductor glass, and quite a few more things. I also sorted those out, then grabbed some metal and started forming the body of the glasses.

three-ish months later
I finished programing the last of the code into the glasses I had made. Finally after months of work. Of course I hadn't been working on them the whole time, but for most of the time I was. Tom was still in a coma, but I had figured out how to make these connect to a part of his brain that should help wake him up. It of course took quite a while to make, and I had to test it out many times. Put simple half of our prisoners were dead now, but I had finally gotten the glasses to work without causing a fatality- at least I think I did. Tom was still in critical condition, but this should help him quite a bit.I picked up my finished work, holding it delicately in my hands. Now to test it out one final time before putting it on tom.
"Paul, Bring one of the prisoners to lab room 18 please, ASAP", I barked into my radio. I was answered by a simple 'yes sir' before I started walking to one of the lab rooms. I stepped in and shortly after Paul and another soldier came in with a thin blonde haired man. He looked extremely nervous as he sat down on the table.
"Please hold still", I demanded at the prisoner. He simply nodded my head as I hooked up a small machine to monitor his heart rate. I attached the glasses to his eyes and turned them on. He screamed out in pain as it started digging into his eyes and soon his brain, hooking onto different areas, primarily the optical lobe, but also many other parts of the man's brain. After a few minutes of the man screaming out in agonizing pain the screen flashed alive and a electronic voice said, "Connection complete, device operational". I yelled out in joy that it had finally worked. Now I could have my Tom back! I went up to the man who had calmed down a bit and was now looking around.
"Can you see ok?" I asked him. He nodded in response and my smile grew. I pressed a button on the side of the glasses then spoke to them, "Disconnect", I told it.
"Please enter passcode", it's electric voice said. A keypad came up and I typed in a code. The screen flashed all green to show it was correct, then the man let out another scream as the wires detached and retracted from his brain.
"Shut down complete", It said before going all black. I took the device off the now blind man's face. I didn't feel too bad about ruining his vision, after all he is a prisoner, and I needed to make sure they worked.
"Paul take him back", I demanded at the man who had been standing in the corner in the room. He nodded and grabbed the blind prisoner, leading him down to the cells. I went back to my lab to disinfect the device. I couldn't wait to put it on Tom and to be able to see him awake again!
